Girls....I need your honest opinions...when I first started looking at dresses, I fell in love with the shorter length dresses...I like the look...I feel it would flatter my girls more and it's easier to wear again. When I went to find my dress at David's and the topic came up...the lady who was helping me said 'Why would you want shorter dresses? Longer dresses are more formal and elegant looking'...and I felt shot down. I know longer dresses are more formal....but I'm not having a major formal wedding.....so..Have any of you done the shorter dresses (as seen in Shammas' post on NW board) or what do you think of them versus a full length dress??? Please help....

I have seen some shorter length BM dresses that I really like as well as the traditional longer length ones. Its whatever you like, its your day! Who cares what the salesperson thinks.

If you're having an afternoon wedding, shorter-length dresses are appropriate, IMO any night affair (especially a Saturday) should be gown length for bridesmaids.

Re: Need BM dress advice (need honest opinions)
While they haven't picked their dresses yet, my BMs are wearing tea length dresses. I love the look as do my BMs and they're definetly going to wear them again. I'm having an evening wedding. I think it's a matter of personal preference - and I don't think there are any 'rules' as to what makes something more formal or not. For example, a woman invited to a Black-Tie affair, can wear anything from a ball gown to a c*cktail dress. I say go for whatever you love.

I think you should have whatever you want. I like shorter dresses. I think shorter BM dresses have style and flair.
Who cares if it's an afternoon or evening wedding, formal or informatl. It's YOUR wedding and that's what counts.
I did dark red in August. People thought I was crazy. I really didn't care.
Turns out more people complimented me on the color of the BMs dresses than I could have imagined.
So do what YOU want. It's YOUR wedding!

Re: Need BM dress advice (need honest opinions)
Thank You girls....while I do love the look..I don't have the heart to ask my girls to shell out so much money for the dresses....therefore David's is the wisest choice as most of the dresses could come out to under $100 with the 15% off since my dress came from there.....but I could get them altered to a shorter length....if anyone has pics of BP in this length I'd appreciate it!

Try Burton's, I got my dresses for the girl for 114, and at other stores, it was as high as 168.

Personally, I can't wear the shorter dresses so I don't want them for my girls, plus I like the look of the longer dresses. I say, have them wear what they like and looks good. They can prob wear the shorter dresses again, maybe not so with the longer ones.

IMO you should go with whatever makes you happy and looks better to you. It's all a matter of personal taste. As for me I like the way short dresses look during day wedding and I am not too crazy about them for an evening wedding. Just a word of advice if you will go with short dresses, ask your BM's to get matching shoes. It looks soooo much better. Good luck.

Shorter dresses are just as pretty. You go with whatever you want. Tell the salesperson 'I don't recall asking your opinion, now just get me what I asked for' and leave it there.

Re: Need BM dress advice (need honest opinions)
First off, that's all I've been seeing this whole year is the shorter dresses. They're so 'in' right now so why a salesperson would shoot them down is beyond me. Secondly, absolutely if you're having a less formal wedding, you can go with a shorter dress. Thirdly, I have been in 9 weddings and I have never worn any of the dresses again (except that my friend borrowed one to go to a black tie wedding where she needed a gown) so do not let that fact even influence you at all. Price, definitely, the 'wear again' factor? Forget it. I always said I would do my best to pick something my girls could wear again but I doubt they will wears again either. Fourth - Do not let anyone talk you out of something you really want. If you want the shorter style, go for it. I wouldn't get a longer one and have it altered b/c it may change the look of the dress if it wasn't meant to be short. GL!
