I think the topiary idea and the first pic you posted (with the pink flowers) are really pretty. I also saw this done and I'm pretty sure it's Oheka in case you're looking for other ideas.
Ok...the picture of Oheka that you posted to me is exactly what I don't want. It obviously cost a lot of money. But IMO is SOOOOOOOO ugly. It is completely overdone in a tacky, long island way.
I SOOOO appreciate you posting (and in no way is my reply an attack on you) but I can't but go crazy when I see that picture. I am also sure that many people who read this will think I am nuts.
Here are some other pictures of alters that I love. They probably cost the same amount of money but they are so much classier and beautiful (IMO). They are not practical for my wedding but I would love to have either of them.
I think Long Islanders are behind the times to some extent in terms of floral arrangements. I have a hard time myself sometimes with low arrangements because we are so programmed on LI to think the higher the better. But the trend is completely changing. Low arrangements which are densely packed with amazing flowers are more beautiful many times than some flower stand and a couple of flowers high in the sky. Again this is all my own opinion in this crazy, random rant. Thanks for indulging this psycho bride!
i love that second picture... it is beautiful... i still like high arrangements but not tooooooo many flowers to be tacky i feel liek many low ones get in the way of the middle of the table
i cant stand talking across the table and not being able to see!!!!! i just had to mention it i agree with you though on that rose arrangement....even as much as i loooovvvve roses!!!!!!!!!!!!! t

No offense taken at all. Everyone has an idea of how they want their wedding to be, so don't feel like you're being a psycho bride just because you want something different

I agree- I happen to not like masses of flowers. The smell reminds me of funerals. I am not even having flower centerpieces at all. I'm making my own with wooden lighthouses, shells and candles.

Wow...how creative. Do you have any pics?

The branches in Russo's pic look like dogwood--I might be wrong though.

I think maybe cherry blossoms, but I could be wrong b/c I thought cherry blossoms were just white, but I'll try to find out for you.

It is. It is from Preston Bailey's book.

Have you seen the pic of the Topiaries wrapped with a sheer bit of tulle?.... I don't have it right now but does that sound like something you would like?

Yeah...I think it is from Martha. I am not really a fan of tulle. But those pics are pretty.

Maybe this will give you some inspiration? Minus the tulle, of course!
