my friends mother knitted me this gorgeous garter for my shower gift. One of my oily hair products tipped over and spilled on it and now it's died like a pinkish purple bluish color. Is there anything I can do to die it back. Bleach maybe? I don't want to ruin it even more! It's too small and she has to make it bigger but I don't want her to know I ruined it!

oh noo.
I'd probably be honest with her - maybe she knows what will clean it?

Re: need help
DONT bleach it i think you should just be honest with her and let her know what happened, accidents happen and she is the best one to fix it!

I agree. Be honest with her and tell her what happened.
In the meantime you may be able to try woolite. I don't know if it'll take the color out but that is what we use for hand knitted/crocheted things in my house.

Re: need help
You said knitted so I would not use bleach - perhaps a really gentle detergent - soak and rinse a few times - tell her what happened maybe she can make a new one.

Re: need help
Bring it to your dry cleaners and see if they can do something?

Re: need help
I think bleach might ruin it, but OxyClean or some other type of oxygen bleach may work - it's more gentle on fabrics. And try the dry cleaner too!
