Ok, so last week my florist made up my centerpiece, and brought it to an expo and set it up on the table. Well here is the problem, my centerpiece is made of dendrobium orchids. The heat of the candles were making them wilt within an hour. I explained to the florist and she said she would redo them and put glass chips or marbles in the vase to make them stand up more to keep them away from the flames. Anyway, next day she tells me she wasnt able to do it. So today we call her and we asked her if she has orchids and was able to set up the centerpiece again, then she says she will have to charge us but if we want her to do it anyway we can keep the flowers! Are you kidding me???? Isnt it the florists responsiblity to provide a sample for us to see before we walk in on our wedding day? Iam ready to just cancel my contract and start new.

considering that you were unhappy, I would say you should get another centerpeice sample- can you talk to a manager or someone above her or is she it?

yes it was the candles because you could see them turning brown.

I'd either speak with a manager or check with another florist.

I was just going to ask the same as I have seen a sample that a florist did for FH and I and the flowers were totally wilted because they didn't use fresh flowers- just used whatever was left over so to speak.
Most orchids (if I recall correctly) are a delicate flower though.

I don't think florists HAVE to give you a sample. I think it's something that some of them do...but it's not a requirement.

Yeah but she said she WOULD make us a sample, and we were not happy with the outcome. And she said she was going to re do them the next day at a different expo but she said the flowers died, so she could not reuse them. Now she wants to charge me because its not being done for an expo?? That is not right!

most florist we spoke to said they would do one mock up, if we didn;t like it they would make changes accordingly, and that all subsequent mock ups would be assesed a fee.

Why don't you use a soy based candle? They tend to burn cooler (they also last longer because of this). This might help your flowers!

Orchids are known to be great centerpiece and bok flowers because they ARE hearty. The last so long outside water. However no flower is going to stand up to direct heat from a flame. Can you get a different centerpiece holder and instead use scattered votives loosely on the table away from the flowers?
