I'm not sure what to do - I am totally set on a wonderful reception place, but my parents ate the food at the restaurant and it wasn't amazing so they'd rather do it somewhere with better (and guaranteed) awesome dinner, service, etc. This place I want is somewhat new and unestablished in the wedding scene so I'm a little hesitant, as you can imagine. It is so beautiful though, and I don't think people come to a wedding for the food anyway, right? I do understand my parent's concern since they're hosting about 200 people...but I don't know, what do you think? Is it worth the risk???

Re: Need Help-food a priority???
I'm inclined to agree with your parents on this. Food is DEFINATELY important. IMO: People, food and music are the 3 most important factors in a great day. Do you mind if I ask where you are looking? There are plenty of place to choose from that are beautiful with great food. You'll find something. Good luck and welcome to LIW!!

Re: Need Help-food a priority???
It's fine that you ask...Areca in Plainview is the place I love, but with new ownership recently it has never been advertised for weddings much - just now they have it in Sites and Services, on websites, etc. The place my parents love is Giorgio's (i love it too, just so far and i don't like it as much as areca). i'm certain the food at Giorgio's would be amazing, I've only heard wonderful things and it's all Italian owned, etc. My FH really loves Areca too. I know food isn't as important to us but it's a key element. No guarantees Areca but with the other place ther are...oh what do do? haha i'm sure the wedding will be great at many places so it's not that important - but just tough because I want to make my parents happy too. thanks for your input:)

I looked at Giorgio's also, but it is SOOO far out.
You never know, maybe the resturant had an off night when your parents ate there. I think that there might be some brides-to-be for Areca on this site, you should get some more opinions about it. Happy hunting! It was the most stressful part so far, but don't let it get to you.

Re: Need Help-food a priority???
food is very important to me when I attend a wedding, and now that I am having one. A wedding acn be just beautiful, and have all the other elements in place, but if the food is bad, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth (pardon the pun.)
Whenever I ask someone how a wedding is, the quality of the food, whether good or bad, is always one of the first things they comment on.
Consider eating there yourself and experiencing it firsthand before making a decision.
Good luck!

You should definately eat there yourselves. And also find out from some brides on this site that have been married there or attended a wedding there about their experiences.
Good Luck!

Re: Need Help-food a priority???
Food was #2 on our list of importance...fitting all of our guests was #1
ETA: I also too into account beautiful presentation & proper service, as well as taste.

Food is important. I went to a wedding at Areca and I was extremely impressed. I thought the food was great. The service was outstanding.

Re: Need Help-food a priority???
I don't know anything about areca, so I can't be any help there, but I want to tell you that food really should be on the top of your priority list. People always talk about the food at a wedding and since they are your guests, you want to provide them with the best meal possible. We have actually had conversations at the dinner table about food that was either not up to par or phenominal. More than the little details that stick out in a brides brain, most guests care about the food and the music.

Re: Need Help-food a priority???
hate to agree with the parents but food is way more important than the location. people in my family never ever talk about the places where weddings are but god help you if the food was lousy - you'll never ever forget it - my grammy and her sisters still pick on my one cousin who had nasty food at her wedding and that was 15 years ago!!!
