Need help from my LI girls....

Ok so FH and I are going to start looking for a home soon!!!!!! I am so excited but being that we are from Queens and want to eventually move to Long Island I need some help on some good districts. I am not too familiar with differnt parts so I was wondering if some of you girls can give me some insight on where to look or maybe where you live. Thank you ladies!!!!

I'm partial to Island Trees, cause I went there... but the school districts around here are all pretty good! Levittown, Bethpage, Farmingdale, Painedge, Massapequa... let me find you a link...

Here is One!

Also, if you look on MLSLI.com it tells you the school district and you can google it.... that's what I usually do, lol. HTH!!!

Valley Stream SD #24 and #30 and Lynbrook SD #20 are all good. That's the extent of my knowledge for LI school districts. FH's cousin works in Merrick and from what she says it's a good one.

How exciting. I am originally hail from the boroughs as well but once you get settled in LI it is hard to ever leave.
I worked within school districts throughout Long Island & I have real estate insight that may be of help. I may be able to at least get you started on places to think about. I will send you fm, if you want to reach me.
I guess you first want to narrow it down to Nassau vs Suffolk, what type of neighborhood you are thinking of, cost, etc.

it really depends on where you want to live, what type of community you're looking for. and price range.

Bethpage I highly recommend. Great school district. Also plainview-old bethpage

Also Garden City schools are great too!! but it's expensive to live there

Re: Need help from my LI girls....

i don't mean to burst your bubble lol but it's REALLY hard to get a teaching job on long island. so if you have a job here teaching already that's fantastic. but i know from friends of mine that it's extremely political. just wanted to give you a heads up

all the schools everyone has mentioned are great.

if you're looking in suffolk - these are good ones

babylon
west babylon
west islip
lindenhurst

I am a teacher in a western suffolk school district and I can tell you the area around me that are really nice and have good districts, but I would totally wait till you got a job on the island before you consider buying becuase that could determine where you are going to live.

We will be looking to buy a home after the wedding and the areas we are looking in totally correspond to where me and my fh work. You wouldn't want to buy a house in Ronkonkoma and then get a job in Floral park b/c then you would have a really long commute.

If you need a mortgage broker fm me. My fh owns a mortgage company
Good Luck Crystan

I teach in a district in eastern Suffolk. I agree with the other posters...finding a teaching job on LI is extremely competitive. You're best bet is to have an idea first if you want to live in Nassau or Suffolk, and then apply to all districts within a radius of how far you're willing to commute from where you would most likely live.

Just another thought...you might not want to live where you work! I certainly don't! I know a lot of people do, but personally, I don't want to be running into my students and their parents on the weekends when I am in my sweats and have no make up on! Its also nice to go out to dinner and not have to worry about that...just something to think about.
