I'm starting my search for a photographer, and I've decided to start with my hall's recommended vendors.
Do any of you have any experience with or comments on any of the following photographers? 1. Bret Matthews Studios 2. Spelman Studios 3. Imagine Studios
There were others listed, but I checked out the websites and these are the three that had some stuff in their galleries that appealed to me.
Also, if any of you know of a photographer whose approach is very much about really capturing the moments of the day and capturing the joy (as opposed to doing alot of formally posed pictures or a lot of artistic/photojournalist type stuff), I'm willing to take recommendations!
thanks so much ladies! I haven't done any wedding stuff since we booked our hall over a month ago, I'm glad to finally get back into it.

Try Perceptions Photography. Their website is perceptionsphoto.com. We booked them and they are all about that photojournalitc look. Not the usual wedding poses and pictures.

I highly recommend Franklin Square Photographers...I booked them for my Nov. wedding. A lot of brides on this site have used them - do a search and you can find some people's proofs on here from them...
Or you can look at recent wedding pics on their website:

I couldn't afford Imagine, so I didn't meet with them, but I've seen their work (one of my co-workers kids used them) and it is truly amazing. So too is Spelman's work (I also couldn't afford her).
We went with The Velvet Studio. Bob offered the same high quality work, the same combination of photojournalistic and traditional photography that Spelman offered at a much better price.

Ditto, my engagement pics came out amazing, and a couple of other brides are using her as well. She was the most cost effective, and her work truly does speak for itself.

I am using the same photographer one of my sisters' used for their wedding. His name is Michael Sullivan. I love his work, he also did one of my step-sisters' wedding also. If you want his phone number, FM for details. He is located in Coram, I am not sure if it is far from where you live.
