Re: need help.. please!!
A lot of the catering halls do this because some use it as their seating plan. The Riviera in Brooklyn does it. As each guest enters they are asked their name and the waiter/m'd will tell them their table number.

my hall needs 2 lists...
1 with all names in alphabetic order
1 with all names and the table number they are sitting at.

Re: need help.. please!!
My hall did this presumably so that a person's name would be easy to find if necessary (e.g., if they cancelled last minute after you gave in the list, if the person was accidentally assigned to the wrong table, etc, for insurance purposes, etc.). I did it in Excel and just sorted the spreadsheet by last name. I typed each person's name out individually (even if they were part of a married couple) so that my list would reflect our final count number and also so they had everyone's name, not just Mr. and Mrs. so and so.
HTH!

I had to do this...alphabetical order and table numbers. I guess incase something was wrong placecards or guests had questions...or even liability?

NRC needed the same thing. Guest list in alphabetical order is for the escort ard table, so that the person putting out the cards can cross check against the list.
Guests by table is also for the RH's information. This way they can have an accurate count by table and also in case a guest looses their escort card, the maitre 'd can let them know where they are sitting.
Worked out good for my reference too. I carried a copy of the lists with me just in case.

Do it in excel. It will be easiest this way. If you dont' have someone's names just put guest.

I only had one like that and I just wrote '+guest' in the first name column. It worked out fine.

We had to do the same thing anyones names I didn't know I just put guest or Mr & Mrs funny story a guy we know very well eveyone calls him turtle so I thought it would be funny to put his girlfriends name & turtle... Well would you believe she took the card and sat down and he couldn't find her so he went to the staff and said I don't know where to sit so they took my list and looked up his name they were like sorry your not on the list so he's like oh I'm here with Michelle so and so so they look her up and there like nope sorry she's here with turtle! he's like oh that's me! Lol so whatever I put on the place cards matched my list which I guess for him I shouldn't have done that but I would have never thought they would actually use it!

Re: need help.. please!!
My RH asked us to do this too. They said because if someone cant find their placecard (or if you forget to make one...LOL) they will know what table they are seated at.

We have to do this as well. They said I can just print out my own list that I have (since it's alphabetical) on my computer.
