Ok my MOH wants to throw her bf a surprise party this june. She has her heart set on a rooftop lounge or something like that. Thing is they charge so much and dont give much with it ya know. For example 230 fifth its 7 bottle minimum so right there just for 7 bottles you are paying $2100. She doesnt want to spend that much especially if you dont get alot. She is the MOH in 2 weddings this year, just moved into a new place so shes on a budget now but really wants to do this for him. She also at first had checked out suites at hotels in the city but many dont allow big parties or charge $5k and up for a room.
I need suggestions, trying to help her out. I know she has her heart set on a rooftop place but i think its good if she also explores other options and then compares them and sees what is better. So if anybody knows a hotel with good rates that ALLOWS parties, or bars, lounges clubs where we get our own tables and throw a birthday party. She will probably invite about 40-50 ppl so this is when it becomes a problem with cost.
Anything anybody can suggest, places you went to for parties i would really appreciate it. Thank you

yeah gansevoort is big, but they'll probably be even more expensive than 230 fifth, i mentioned it to her to maybe call and find out but it would be the same thing, a 7 bottle minimum. Actually i cant remember but she might've called, she called a few rooftop places in the city. I cant remember which place but their minimum was even bigger and i think they wanted you to book about 10 tables for a party. Thank you

Ava Lounge on 55th and Broadway is a rooftop place. Its a great space. Not sure what their prices are like though...you'd have to give them a call
I wanted to ask you actually, i remember you threw a party at essex, how much was it per person and is there a bar or lounge in there?
i might suggest to her to do a big dinner and then maybe go out after. His friends every year do big parties in the city and they reserve part of a bar or lounge, i told her she doesnt have to pay for everybody as far as drinks bc i go to those parties every year and we pay for our own drinks

Hmmm, why not reserve a backyard of a restaurant instead of the roof? That won't be as expensive and can be just as fun. Tons of restaurants in NYC and Bklyn that have backyards.

she is just worried about the music if we do that, would be able to get music too? if we can do this i know she'll definitely go for that
