Hello ladies, well i am in some serious trouble, and really need some help here. My FH's mom lives in Poland, and will be arriving in the US 3 days before our wedding. Months ago i offered to buy her a dress to wear to the wedding (because they live in a very small town in Poland, and i know there wouldn't be any great stores, with great dresses for her to buy), buy my FH told me that 'she would take care of it'. So yesterday when he spoke to her, she told him that she baught a dress. Naturally, i asked her to send me a pic of the dress. This is the pic i received today. I started freaking out b/c we don't have alot of time left and we have to find her a better dress. Where can we go?? What sould we do?? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME. We need to find her a dress ASAP that is not too expensive but, still looks like she's going to her son's (black tie affair) wedding....ANY SUGGESTIONS

oh no no... she can't wear that.
Your FH should tell her that that type of dress is not what is typically worn for evening weddings in NY & you would be glad to send her pictures of dresses that you think would be appropriate.
Maybe you can even ship it to her before the wedding so she can have it altered.
I forgot to mention the shoes.... you will probably have to wait to go shoe shopping with her as soon as she gets off that plane.

does anyone kow of a good store in NYC area (and i'm willing to travel to LI or NJ) that i can find her a good dress, and not totally break the bank...

Aw, I feel so bad for her because she probably really liked the dress - I think it's nice with the jacket on, but definitely not appropriate for a black tie wedding in LI.
I suggest hitting all the department stores ASAP - you would be surprised at how many gorgeous dresses for moms they have. Hit Macy's, Bloomies, Nordstrom, Saks, Lord & Taylor. Also, try David's Bridal - you never know you might find something to buy for her there.

What about trying to buy something off the rack at macys, bloomingdales or even davids bridal? If you are looking for a gown that is black tie appropriate, you will have to be okay with no alterations and maybe paying a little more.

Try the stores in NYC - I prefer Lord & Taylor, Macy's, Bloomies, Saks.
You have to keep in mind that in Europe, tastes run really different and weddings are not celebrated in the grand manner as we do.
The dress looks good on her, just not for a black tie wedding.

Damn! Not good. As the other ladies have said it really is not a bad dress just not the best for a black tie wedding.
Oh well, go with what the other ladies said and I would line up an appointment with a seamstress just in case. Let your MIL know that this dress is inappropriate and that as soon as she gets to NY you will treat her to a new dress.

We went to this store that is filled with dresses named Estelle but I don't know where it is somewhere close to Farminingdale. Think you can find one there. Don't let her where that!!!

Century 21 in the finance district they have a lot of brand names.

Also you can make a weekend of walking around the fashion district in Manhattan. They have a lot of small mom and pop stores that sell really nice dresses.

DEFINITELY check out Lord & Taylors in the city. Both my mom and DH's mom got their dresses there off the rack in one day.
