NEED HELP WITH FH's MOM's DRESS!!!!

Original post by monelwookie

Hello ladies, well i am in some serious trouble, and really need some help here. My FH's mom lives in Poland, and will be arriving in the US 3 days before our wedding. Months ago i offered to buy her a dress to wear to the wedding (because they live in a very small town in Poland, and i know there wouldn't be any great stores, with great dresses for her to buy), buy my FH told me that 'she would take care of it'. So yesterday when he spoke to her, she told him that she baught a dress. Naturally, i asked her to send me a pic of the dress. This is the pic i received today. I started freaking out b/c we don't have alot of time left and we have to find her a better dress. Where can we go?? What sould we do?? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME. We need to find her a dress ASAP that is not too expensive but, still looks like she's going to her son's (black tie affair) wedding....ANY SUGGESTIONS

OH MY!!!! She actually thought this would be appropriate for a black tie affair wedding?????
I would recommend all of the major department stores also. Good luck finding something!!!

Can I remind you guys that this lady lives in a small village in Poland. For her that may be appropriate. Different places have different customs. I mean most places in the US for example, its a cash bar not like on LI where its open bar. Don't insult the poor lady.

Oh sweet lord that is a disaster!!!

I would agree with the other ladies and suggest Macys, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor, Sacks. They have some beautiful selections and I'm sure you will be able to find a simple yet elegant dress for her there. Good Luck!!!

Aww, I feel bad, b/c she probably has no idea what a NY wedding is llike. I would definitely try dept stores. Lord & Taylor usually has good sales.

The only thing about the dress is that it looks better with the jacket but not for a wedding...does she have access to the internet?? Can she shop online? I am sure there are altering places in her town.

Wow, this sounds just like the story about my sister-in-laws mother who did not come to the USA from Poland until a week at most prior to the wedding and she did not have a dress at all.

Try to relax b/c I know for a fact that she will be able to find a dress on such short notice. I am sorry to tell you but I can't remember where she went. Maybe try David's Bridal or someplace that you can purchase something off the rack? How about Nordstroms or Bloomie's?

Try not to stress...

It must be a Polish thing.... I think in other countries, weddings are not done up as much as our country.

Estelle's has a TON of MOB/MOG dresses....and they're SO much decently priced rather than going to a bridal shop....Good Luck! I hope u find something! poor little lady - she probably has no idea about weddings here! i'm sure if u have FH call her & just explain how formal of an event it's going to be that no feelings will be hurt....but DEFINETLY try estelles!

....worse comes to worse i'm sure people will understand being that she's from another country...but i hope u find something!

Yes, I agree very well said....here in NY we do everything up big and beautiful, but other towns, cities, villages it is very different. Just help the lady get a new dress.
