Need Help...How Do I Handle This???

My neighbor and his son just asked us if the son could come to our wedding (we are getting married in 4 days)
WE don't have any kids coming. We don't even have a flower girl
This has caused problems with my step siblings and my step sister diddn't even come to our eparty. I was so put on the spot when this 4 year old asked me. I didn't know what to say so I said yes.
My step family is going to freak and I don't think my mom will be happy. The cocktail hour doesn't start until 8pm.
What do I do?
My fi said he would stop over and explain that there are no kids and all the problems....Is that tacky?

Not tacky at all. It was tacky of the parents to allow this child to ask you. Maybe you can compromise and he can come watch you in church.

I think is was tacky of them to ask!!!

It is very sweet of your fi to offer to handle this. I think going and explaining is person is very appropriate. You do not want to offend your family and your neighbor should understand.

Good luck

If you let this one come, a million other people who are not bringing their kids and following the rules will be mad.

I would NEVER EVER EVEN THINK of doing something like this.
We aren't even getting married at a church....its all at the place.
Thanks for your advice....I hate uncomfortable situations!

Just tell them you're so sorry to have to change your mind.

Why aren't you having any kids, is it b/c it's such a late party?

We had a daytime affair, and I must say the kids were the best part. If you can swing it, I'd call your family and tell them to bring the little ones, unless you're totally set on an adults only party.

If I'm reading this correctly, you already said yes. You need a tactful way for your FH to say No and get you off the hook.
I have a suggestion if you like.
Can he say that HIS mother already had to say No to some relatives on his side when they asked about children, and unfortunately, it would really cause hard feelings?
You still remain the good neighbor and that should put an end to it.

you definitely need to (politely) put your foot down. if your family is anything like mine, they would freak if i didn't allow young relatives to attend, but then let a neighbor's child come. definitely, definitely have FI handle this. it was tacky for them to put you on the spot like that to begin with.

good luck!!!

not tacky at all, you decided on no kids for a reason and arent even including family kids, so a neighbors kid shouldt be an exception, and it would probably cause chaos when the people who couldnt bring kids see him..

THEY were tacky to even ask.

And I wouldn't tell your family - it seems like it will only cause more problems for you and just days before YOUR big day. Just see if your FH can explain that you were put on the spot and that you both have already had to say no to FAMILY members so you do not feel it's right to have their son come.

How friggin rude!
