Need Honeymoon Ideas

Hi Ladies,
I'm relatively new to this board, and hope someone can help.

We're getting married on 10/09/04, and basically we can't decide where to go on our honeymoon. My FI is a 9/11/01 survivor (he was working that day, and got out just minutes before) so at this point and time he really doesn't want to fly anywhere. Ok, i can deal with that. Then we thought about a cruise out of NY but found out that October is Hurricane season. So now we're thinking about Niagara Falls, (I would love to see them, but I don't think there is much else to do up there). Or either The Smokey Mountains, or possibly even Virginia. Times starting to go quicker so any suggestions or ideas that you can come up with would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all, Patti

I haven't been, but I hear Montreal is beautiful. Also, they do cruises around Nova Scotia - which I hear is gorgeous.

I think Canada is a great idea for a HM - I hear the Canadian side of the falls is much prettier than they NY side...but it's cheaper to stay on the NY side.

You may want to look at the Finger Lakes. FH and I went there in August for our first vacation. He wasn't a big wine person, but was by the time we came home! There are wine trails along the Seneca, Cayuga and Keuka Lakes. It's a lot of fun to do the tastings, but a lot of them have views of the lakes too, which are stunning. Fall is supposed to be a popular time to visit there because the fall foliage is supposed to be amazing. It's very quiet and laid-back. We stayed at two different B&B's and especially loved one, Castel Grisch. The owers were so nice and we had lots of privacy. Also, if you wanted to visit Niagara Falls but didn't want to make the drive in a day, it would be a good stop-off. One of the bridal mags recently featured the area as well. October may also not be too late for dinner cruises- we did one and it was excellent. FM me if you want names of specific wineries and restaurants- we hit a lot of them!

My FI is very nervous about flying too which is why we rented a car 2 years ago and drove to FL. It was an experience I would love to do again, even though my advice would be to stop and sleep instead of driving straight there.

My Mom has been on cruises up to Nova Scotia and loved them each time.

Other suggestions:

Poconos - beautiful in the fall

New England - also beautiful in the fall, prices may be up a bit cuz of people going to see the trees.

Myrtle Beach/Virginia/D.C

Montreal - check out Mont Tremblant it's a ski resort with year round luxury hotels, lots of hiking, biking, relaxing and not too far from Montreal.

Niagra falls is fun but I'd get bored after a few days, we are big hockey fans so when we went we saw the sabers play in buffalo, then went to the falls for a couple days and then went to Toronto for a game.

Would he take a train somewhere? Maybe get a sleeper car (seems so romantic to me) and go to Florida or New Orleans...

Newport, Rhode Island, montauk, camping in new hampshire, there are tons of places you could go to...even upstate, that time of the year, like a bed and breakfast in bedford falls, seeing the leaves change colors.

How about the Pocono's in Penn. You can drive there, only 3 hrs away. You could stay at the Caesars Pocono Rsorts. I hear it is nice there, espicially in the Oct months. They have horseback riding, out-lets for shopping, nightly live entertainment with dancing, it includes the all-u-can eat breakfast and dinner. They have a golf course and tennis. Water skiing too, but it might be a bit to cold for that. A friend of mine did this for her HM and had a blast, that they returned the following year for their 1 yr anniversary.
