My dog has been at the vet since sat. now they want to keep her until wed. She has congestive heart failure and I'm a MESSSSSSSSSSSS. She's 13 Chow/Sheperd(Iknow she's old) but she just started coughing and swelling up the other night. Anyone else's dog ever have/pull through this?

My dog has never gone through this an I'm not a vet. I know how much I love my dog and I know how scared I get when he's sick. I just wanted you to know you're not alone. I'll be thinking of you and your doggy and hping that all works out quickly! You'll be in my thoughts.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I have never been in your situation but I will send prayer to you for your dog. I know this must be a difficult time for you. I love animals and I would be a mess if my dog was going through any problems.

I don't live on LI (just getting married there), but has she been seen by a cardiologist? Dr. George A. At the very least, an echo (sonogram) of the heart to figure out what is causing the heart failure. Heart failure in dogs, like in poeple, is reversable, but the underlying cause needs to be found and treated. Hope this helps.

Hey... my prayers are with you... my little guy, lives with FH, I do treat him like my son, and when he's sick with even a skin infection I feel so badly for them... I will keep you and your pup in my prayers...
My friend's boxer has cardiomyopathy, which cause CHF... Vet said he is in danger of dying anyday,... it's been about 2 months after that VEt so that....so your pup may overcome this episode and be well... stay strong...

I'm so sorry your going through this on top of everything else. My dog is my child and I would be a mess right now...I will definitely say a prayer, dogs are stronger then we think, if we show them were strong and give them all the love we have they will show you the same.

Having pets, is like having kids. You don't think of them as an animal, but more like your own child. I have a dog who's only 3 years old, but I freak out the moment I see him in discomfort. So I can only imagine how intensified your feelings are right now. I'm really sorry about your dog and my thoughts and prayers goes out to you.

Yes your puppy can pull through this. There are several medications that your veterinarian can use which should decrease the fluid retention in your pup's lungs and can also decrease the workload on her heart as well. Your veterinarian may also recommend some heart friendly perscription diets to help control and decrease some of the symptoms that go along with heart failure. CHF can often be medically managed at least to give you some more quality time with your puppy dog. My FH's dog lived to be 16 (beagle) and had CHF for the last 4 years of her life. I hope they are able to find something that will work for your puppy!! Stay positive, animals can do some amazing things.
