there's a chance we may be purchasing my grandpa's house from my mom, aunt and uncle.
we won't be using a real estate agent obviously.
we both have excellent credit.
we want to go looking for rates and banks with low/no fees. we're both idiots when it comes to this stuff.
where should we look? mortgage broker? bank?
help!!

start with your bank..sit down with a loan officer and get some info. Go to at least one more broker or banker and get something to compare it to.

My Husband is a Broker- FM me if you want his info to compare with a bank
but I would try a bank first

go to a bank first...
bankers = license to lend brokers = registered to refer
brokers aren't mortgage specialists. They don't need a license to practice, they just need to register with the NYS banking authority and they will basically charge you points for the referral to a bank. start at the bank you go to now. you usually get the best rate offers from them.
