So as many of you have heard me say, my FMIL is literally S a t a n in human form. Little back info - My mother and I finished the guest list this weekend and we are way over. So FMIL calls last night and says she has finished 'her guest list'!! It has another 30 people on there. I told her that I could not accomodate that many more, maybe 10 but I would have to speak with my mother first. Well she started SCREAMING at me, telling me how disrespectful I am and ungrateful. She wanted to know why do I get to invite whoever I want but she can't.....well I told her since its MY wedding I can, plus my parents are footing the bill!!!! I already invited her closest family and she has no friends. After talking with FH, we will add on another couple we forgot but thats it. She wants to invite people FH has never even met!!!!!!
I just couldn't believe she was screaming at me. I got nasty back and told her to call back when she could talk to me like an adult! Maybe I should have been nicer but I couldn't take it anymore!!
Sorry just needed to vent a little....

SO sorry you have to deal with this. Doe she think this is her wedding??!! This is YOUR day, that your parents are paying for...if she wants to pay for the extra people or contribute in other ways then thats another story. If she thinks you are just going to cow-tow to her she is obviously disillusioned. I think you handled the situation as best you could...I like how you told her to call back when she could talk to you like an adult!! Good for you!!

Christine, i think you handled yourself perfectly in the situation. It is your wedding and your parents are the ones that are paying for it. she has no right to invite whoever she wants, unless she wants to contribute. Hugs to you for having to deal with her

If your not over you Max for room capcity why dont you kindly let her know that if she wants to invite any more people than you current guest list, then she is welcome to but she will need to foot the bill. I'm sure once you offer her the option to pay for them, she will quiet down.

you definitely handled the situation well. you made it clear that her behavoir will not be put up with and I'm sure she will think twice before acting out of hand with you in the future. wow, that is just crazy how weddings can sometimes bring out the worst in people. i hope that things will eventually get better.

I told her we were already over capacity and we are just inviting immediate family and close friends, which accounts for like 200 people!! My parents gave me a budget and we CANNOT go over.

I'm soo sorry I really feel that you should get to invite anyone u want because it's your wedding specially if your family is footing the bill you guys get to invite anyone if she wants to invite other people she should pay for those people!..don't feel bad and good luck

since i swear our MIL are the same people you did well. sometimes you just need to explode on the person to feel better. i don't think you were harsh in anyway. please don't feel bad
