no u r not overreacting. i think it is extremely tacky to ask for money only as gifts. it' second anniv. and that occasion does not call for a monetray gift from you and FH- that's my opinion- get them a gift

I dont think your overreacting at all...I totally understand the tight budget situation.... I guess no one can really understand unless they are in the same situation. I would say bring a gift but if you're the only one who doesnt bring cash it may make you feel uncomfortable...you know how people can be...

First off, I'd feel a little weird going to a second anniversary dinner...It's one thing when they're milestone anniversaries, but this seems a little odd. Even odder that you were told to bring money. I would soooooooooo bring a gift or not go at all just to make a point.

I feel at the moment like not going (FH can't go because he has to work) because for us to be able to give a monetary give means that mostlikely we cant go out to celebrate our 1 yr engagment anniversary (which is on monday) to the same place we got engage (plans that I been waiting and we had talk about since we set a wedding date and this 'party' was only announce last week.

Get a gift card for Walmart or Target so they can get all the stuff they want to bring on the trip (Suntan Lotion, glasses, little travel things etc.)

I found it soo odd too and also that her family never invite us to their family dinners and stuff that is why it feel to me like a 'sponsor the trip party'

when did parties turn into fundraisers?

very rude and very tacky! Honestly I wouldn't even go! I think to have an anniversary party for 2 years is so weird. Its not like its a milestone like 5, 10, 15, 20.

If I were the bride and groom I would feel extremely weird having a surprise 2 year party! A piece of me things the couple knows about it and just needs money!

I think this is really cheeky. To have a 2nd aniversary dinner AND expect you to give them money, If it was me I wouldn't give them anything at all!!!

that is so tacky and rude. honestly, i wouldn't even go, bc like you said, it sounds more like a 'sponsor our vacation' party rather than an anniv. party.

hmm... If I didnt have to go, then I wouldn't go. A 2 year anniversary is something they should celebrate on their own, not w. the whole family. You are right this party was def. intended for them to get $$$. The only thing is I think that a gift card is almost the same as giving cash. So if you are def. going and you planned on buying her a $ 50 gift card, then save yourself the trip and give her $50 inside a card. I wouldn't be surprised if people went and gave her nothing as a gift. Let us know what you decided to do

*** Sorry, i just read the part that YOUR anniversary is coming up.... if that's the case and money is tight, don't give her anything. Take that money and celebrate your 1 year Engagement anniversary. You deserve it. It's your time to shine. Her day was over 2 years ago. lol.

You are sooo not overreacting! I would feel the same way! How do they expect you to give money to someone who im sure everyone just gave them money at their wedding 2 YEARS AGO??

My aunt was invited to a 25 year anniversary party and they WROT ON THE INVITE TO ONLY GIVE CASH!!! I mean I know times are hard for everyone since the economy S u c k s right now but we are all in the same boat.

I would go with the gift card idea that someone mentioned.

What I was planning to do is use a GC that I have from target to get them something (I already use some of the giftcard so I cant actually regifted)

I would call and tell them you didn't realize the date, and that you actually already had plans for the weekend, but you will send her a gift...then go use your target GC, get her something nice..and that's it...

You are not overeacting at all!!
