Need Opinion
I mentioned this briefly on Friday after it happened, but it seemed to get lost in the shuffle, and since it seems that there's more people around today, I would really appreciate your honest opinions on this.
I went to order the BM dresses with my two friends on Friday. I have been in contact with my entire BP via email throughout the whole dress ordeal, because we were entertaining various options to get the dress at a lower price, but ultimately decided it was easier and safer to just go to the store. So I told the girls in the email the price of the dress that I was able to get for them, and everyone was ok with that price.
So we went, and one friend is small, and one friend is bigger. I had a bad feeling that my one friend would need to pay the extra fee for plus size, and unfortunately, that's what happened. Which I think is bs, because Jim Hjelm runs so small that almost EVERYONE of a normal size falls into their plus size category. Like really? a 16 is plus size? Cuz that's what their cutoff is
So the woman at the store rings them up, says to my one friend your dress comes out to X, and to my other friend your dress comes out to X+60. I wanted to crawl under the table, and my friend clearly was really embarrassed about it, so I tried to talk to the saleswoman, but she said there was nothing she can do. I said I was sorry to my friend, and she said it was ok, and just paid her deposit.
So we got back in the car, I drove with my other friend, who told me that I should tell my friend that she doesn't need to bring a gift to the shower, or that I should pay the fee for her, because it wasn't fair that she's the only person that needs to pay that much more.
My mother and sister agreed...said that I should pay the fee for her.
FH is a bastid, and said it's not our responsibility, and if she's bigger, then she should have to pay more because she's still getting the same value as the other girls dollars vs. material needed. Spoken like a true man
I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place now...part of me is angry and upset and embarrassed, and feels that since I told her it was going to be one price and it ended up being more, I should pay the difference. But then the other part of me feels that I shouldn't, partly because it might be insulting and single her out further to pay for part of her dress or have her be the only one showing up empty handed to the shower, and partly because it's the responsibility of the BP to pay for their dresses.
So I guess all I'm asking is, what would you do if you were in the same position? Like, what would you REALLY do? I know that the right thing to do is probably pay the difference, but money is also very tight and the 60 will make a difference to me, believe it or not. I'm just so torn and feel really bad
TIA.
