Ok so here's a quick recap of what's been going on.
Last year I was promised a promotion. Due to mergers and corporate restructure it got put on hold for a year. To make up for it my bosses gave me a double promotion, rather then becoming an Administrative Assistant (which is a titled position in my company), they promoted me to Assistant Secretary-which in a bank means that I am now an officer of the bank.
This promotion comes with added responsibilities...basically I'm a second supervisor for my area of the department. It's all stuff that I've been doing for the last year but now it's official.
So I finally got my raise for it-keep it mind I waited for a year. My promotion and annual raise came out to 8%, 2% for the promotion and 6% for my regular raise.
Does that seem low to anyone? Should I fight for a higher raise? The only other perks that come with it is I am now entitled to 4 weeks vacation instead of 3 and if my company decides to do stock options I will be eligible.
I had higher expectations for a promotion and annual raise but I'm wondering if my expectations were too high? Any opinions are more then welcome.

Re: Need opinions about payraise for a promotion
Sounds like a fair raise, but there is definitely no harm in asking for more. From my experience, I can say, 'Ask and you shall receive.' At my last job, I got an overall increase of $53,000 over 5 years ... and that ALL came from asking. Good luck.

Wow that's a lot over 5 years.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

8% sounds good to me....I got 12% once, and then 6% the next year

I would research the salary for your position. This will be your gauge for how much your position pays - it's really important to know where you fall.
Good luck! Congrats on the raise and promotion!

a 6% raise is fantastic. but why only 2% for the promotion? that part seems low to me. but like februarybride said, maybe research it online and see if your salary is in line with the average.

6% for the annual and only 2% for the promotion? Doesn't make sense to me.
DH recently got promoted to an Officer's position at a bank and he got a MUCH larger raise.
Then again, man would I love a 6% raise as an annual thing. Maybe that has something to do with it. But I have been in the same crappy job for the last year and a half with NO raise, so who am I to say anything, right?
I'd ask, what could it hurt? You DID wait for this promotion, and they have given you a lot more responsibility. Besides, it's a DOUBLE promotion - should that mean a larger raise?

Don't forget the extra week of vacation she gets with the promotion. I think that in addition to the 2% isn't too bad... along with the 6%.
But yeah... it doesn't hurt to ask. Just make sure you point out reasons why you DESERVE the raise. Give them specific examples on why you are ahead of the pack and deserve the raise.

That's my feeling on it. I'm happy with the 6% for my annual, although last year my annual was 6.5%. But 2% for a double promotion just seems very low to me. I always felt that a promotion should kind of put a person at a higher pay level. It just doesn't give me a lot of incentive to take on the extra job responsibilites. Plus I now lose overtime pay because of the promotion.
