Need Opinions - Living Together....FOLLOW UP
Okay, well we met with the church. Wound up NOT telling them because they didnt ask but did find out some useful information that I DID NOT KNOW that may be useful to other brides out there.... If you both have been baptized you must get married in the church. They would not come to our reception location to marry us. They said it could be done if one was not baptized or if it was an interfaith marriage.

I believe the rule is that all Roman Catholic sacraments must be performed inside of a church. If you are having an interfaith marriage, its not considered a sacrament (which I think is just ridiculous) If you have your heart set on being married outside, you can find ex Roman Catholic priests who will marry you wherever you choose.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea on where I could start a search for an exRoman Catholic Priest? Oh, also the other info that I got was that because we were looking at a Sunday, you can't have a ceremony before 330pm - on ANY Sunday...we want an afternoon wedding in the spring where it will not be too cold out. If we get married at 330 then our reception wouldnt start until 5pm.

same problem - LONG
i totally understand your frustrations. I have been raised Roman Catholic and have been going to church forEVER and never knew you couldn't marry outside of a church! Wish I had known before I plopped down a deposit on a place with a beautiful room for a ceremony. Not to mention that you cannot get a church in the area to marry you if you aren't a parishioner. AND they won't marry you outside either. I think it's terrible. I had one priest at a long island church ask me if I was a parishioner before I could even get out my story - and when I said no replied 'guess this won't work for you then - god bless' and hung up!!!! You'd think they would be excited that you even gave a crap enough to do this in the first place! It's crazy. They totally don't take into consideration how different things are now and how diifficult it is to gather people together from all over. Whew - sorry for the vent. Ask your location for a non Roman Catholic priest. Usually they have a list of a few.

Well... I can suggest the priest we're using...
It's a valid Catholic Sacrament, so don't worry about that. Their services have been blessed by the Pope. Anyway, he's a great priest. And he'll marry you as Catholics outside of the church. Also, you don't have to go to Pre-cana. You do have to be baptised though. We're using this ordre, but we're still doing the precana thing so we can get married at a Catholic Church. We previously weren't planning on it, but we decided to go with the church. Let me know if you want their contact information. They have a website also. I forgot where you're getting married, but the church we're using doesn't care that we're living together. The priest there, even gave us a pamphlet on Catholic couples Living Together. That was weird. Let me know! Good luck!

Also...
The church we're getting married at, we're not parishioners there. We live in North Carolina, and the first time we were at the church was at Christmas. So you can get married at a Catholic Church without being a parishioner. You just have to find one that is more laid back, and not so stricked.

I'm using an ex-Roman Catholic priest ...
he left the church to get married and will still come to the ceremony dressed. It won't be valid in the Church. But I know that after you are married, you can get your wedding blessed adn that's what we intend to do. Jenny, I know your frustrations - I was born, bred, and raised in the Church and I am apalled by their stupid rules and way of thinking. Oh well, if you want his number - I'll look it up. Let me know. His name is Father Wilshire

hey just food for thought, you do know that even though you are using a catholic priest, it's still not considered a catholic marriage, i mean it's not recognized by the catholic churchWelcome New Vendors
