Need painting help...FAST!

I need some advice and help! I am horrible at decorating and we have to paint the living room this week. Its a small space and I wanted to make it 'beachy' colors to open it up so we were thinking blue and white. I wanted to walls blue and the trim and ceiling a white color..but now I am thinking the room may be too small to even have a light blue on the walls..would I be better off painting the walls a whitish color and accenting the trim with a darker blue?

Does any of this make sense?? I have no idea which to choose!

I like the light blue on the walls and the white trim. I don't think the walls will make the place look small in a color. I think you may loose the theme if the walls are white. It sounds like it will be so pretty! DH and I are always at the beach (he surfs and I love it) plus I grew up spending much time with family out at Montauk. So, we are doing nice glass jars in a grouping out on one of our tables in the living room with shells in the them (clam, beach glass, etc.). Show us pics when you are done!

We're doing a beachy theme in our guest room -- originally we were thinking of a blue wash on the walls, but now we've decided to do a sand color on the walls with white crown moulding. I bought a couple of seaside prints, and our bedding and curtains are blue. We're painting today - I'll let you know how it turns out!
Good Luck!

I think we are going to paint the walls and accents a blue color called water's edge and the trim and the ceiling a color called ocean beach. They seem to go well together. And if I dont like it, we can just turn it around and have it the opposite way.

Now i have a really stupid question..it says accents and trim..what is an accent? I thought it was the same as trim but i guess not? Also, the ocean beach color has a little tan to it..can i still use a lot of white in the room?? Thanks ladies.

Nor-
Of course you can still use white....all those colors definitely compliment each other. It sounds like it's going to be so pretty!!!

I am thinking accents are like shelves and things like that, as opposed to moldings...they just throw that word in there to confuse us!! LOL

Our dining room is painted this soft blue color and we left the trim and ceiling white and we get a lot of compliments on the color. I think your living room will look very pretty and cozy!

I think it will come out very nicely! IMO, just being in a room those colors will relax me:)

have you considered molding that is put a little lower than half way up the wall. you could do blue on the lower part, and a lighter or white color on the upper part

my advise is to buy a quart of paint first and try the color out to see if you like it. It is much better to practice and hate it, then buy gallons and hate it. Always try out the colors first.

according to my mom who is an interior designer any color you put on the walls will affect the way the size of the room is perceived. Her recommendation is to paint the room a warm white (i.e. ivory, ecru) and make sure that it is paint with a FLAT finish - not semi gloss, or eggshell...then if you have moldings you can use an accent color on those...but she said a pale blue would be best as long as you have high enough ceilings. if not she recommends keeping the entire room white and using the accent colors in your window treatments & other fabric

hope it all works out!
