Need Photographer Help

Need Photographer Help

I need some help from you girls on choosing a photographer! Basically, I have no idea where to start. How do you go about deciding which photogs to visit? Anyone in particular known for being both good and reasonably priced?

Also, I think we want something of a non-traditional package. We want 2 photogs (at least before, so we don't see each other), no video, no specific limit on the number of photos, and we want the negatives or at least all the images on CD, and only the one book for us. But I don't know enough about this to know if there is anything I shoudl be asking for that I'm missing! Any thoughts? Are any of your photogs giving you the stuff I mentioned above?

Sorry to have so many questions, but we're a little lost on this. Thanks in advance for any help!!

It can be confusing. We looked at about 7 photographers before we choose ours.
I just looked through magazines and read reviews on here and made appointments with the ones we liked.
Most places didn't have a package that offered what we wanted so we went with a small company. He personalized a package for us & he had the lowest price for the best quality (in my oponion.)
Just do a lot of shopping around until you find someone you're comfortable with.
The guy we're using is Kolen photography.

hi One important thing to ask is that the cd or dvd of 'negatives is hi resolution. That way you can get prints done yourself and not relie on photog and there pricing. Some will say you get a disk but it's lo res and all you can do with that is view on internet but not print. We went to 1 place that included lo res or hi res depending on how much you spent and others who 'sold' them to you on a sliding scale based on what you bought (ie how big an album). I think there are enough good photogs out there that will just make them part of your package so you should avoid these others.

With that said, we booked Silverfox. One nice thing I don't remember seeing with others is that you can book a second photog for just 4hrs for $600 (600 is 2006 price not sure if still that) if that time amount will fill your needs.

If you do searches on the boards for photog you can get alot more of an idea of companies girls liked besides just getting your responses here.
Among those I remember being popular are ADA, Thomas Paul, Duet, 12th Night .
Artisan , Sherwood Triart, Proline, Angelica Glass get good reviews too but I think they might be more expensive.

This is great info, thanks girls.

The point about the CD is great...I definitely want it so I can take the images to someone else and have additional prints or books made down the road. I think it's such a scam that some wedding photogs won't give you the negatives or the images in CD.

I can't be too much help, but beware of photographers who will tell you they will put pictures on a CD for you. Make sure you ask them if they will reduce the pixles to make them less clear. If they do it will be harder to make nice copies.
I used Visual Image in Merrick- They charge $1 for each proof you want to get on CD.
My friend used Franklin Square Studio. They gave her all her pictures on a CD, but I think she was unable to save them to her computer.

Good Luck!

were using thomas paul - he was the last photographer we saw and we saw about 10! picking the photog was our hardest decision, and we didnt get that 'it' feeling until we met with tom. he works out of his home, is so nice and prices are very reasonable. and we are getting two photographers for the same price as other places that were only giving us one. i saw someone elses engagement photos on this site that he took, do a search, they are really breath-taking. hope this helps!

we're using Artisan. They gave us a great deal and so many extras!! definitely shop around, even if you love one place go to others before you make the final decision. There a lot out there but you need to feel comfortable w/ the people, the price and obviosuly the pictures!
