Walk me down the aisle Dad
You’re the only one who can
Over these scattered rose petals
To where I’ll take his hand

Walk me down the aisle Dad
And fill my heart with peace
Whisper that you’re proud of me
Set my soul at ease

Walk me down the aisle Dad
Though it seems I walk alone
I carry you inside my heart
Life lessons not outgrown

Walk me down the aisle Dad
And dry my endless tears
My life’s forever changing
I miss you more each passing year

If God would grant me just one wish
I’d wish for one more day
For you to walk me down the aisle, Daddy
And give your daughter away.

Sorry, was just trying to help Yours is better anyway

nonono coleen, dont be sad. im just in a mushy mood now thanks for the help. i do think thats a great poem and might use it for our memorial candle

DH and I at the bottom of our program wrote:

This ceremony is in dedication to Geraldine Chiodi (DHmom ) who is here today in spirit

People thought it was a really nice touch.

we didnt wnat to make it into something really sad. DH mom has been gone 13 months

I couldn't bring myself to write a poem. I am doing a memorial candle though, and in the program I just wrote this:

'The memorial candle is lovingly dedicated to the bride's father, (his name). Forever in our hearts, always in our thoughts.'

how does this sound?

Dad,
I seached endlessly for the perfect words to express my emotions today, as I marry my best friend. I came to the conclusion that there are no words. Nothing can express the emptiness I feel inside without you here. I miss you, more so with each passing day. I carry your memory in my heart and a day never goes by that you aren’t in my thoughts. I am never without you. Today, just as everyday, I carry you with me.

I miss you, I love you.

use that!!!! you have to its beautiful and touching!

Im doing this on my program in dedication to my mom.

In memory of []...
Although we can't see you,
We know you are here:
Smiling, watching over us
As we say 'I do.'
Forever in our hearts,
Forever in our lives —
And so we say our vows
In loving memory of you.

We used that in our ceremony! Not a dry eye in the house....

Karin this is beautiful! i hope you dont mind but i think you should take out the part about emptiness. while it is very expressive on how much you miss your father, i think it is a little 'down' for your wedding. everything else is perfect. even if you leave the emptiness part in what you wrote is from the heart, and thats all your dad could hope for

I wrote:

In Remembrance
Dad, my bouquet is dedicated in your honor. Thank you for watching over us on our special day. I love you and miss you more than words can say.

I'm just throwing my 2 cents out there. I lost my dad. I had my wedding without my dad. Nothing can ever will that void. It is an emptiness. It might sound sad and depressing but, well, it is. Losing your father, especially so young, is tragic. I fought with trying to celebrate and include my father and not making it too sad. In the end, I can say this: do what YOU (Karin) are comfortable, what YOU want and what YOU need. No one else can tell you what to do, what not to do and what is or isn't appropriate. Loss and grief are personal and unique to those suffering with it. Your heart will tell you what to do....and from our conversations, I'm sure your father will let you know what is right too.....

I would never tell anyone 'what to do', especially not for something as sensitive as this. i think it's pretty obvious that this site is for opinions and I was simply providing mine and i dont think i was out of line.

I wasn't saying you were out of line at all. I know this site is for opinions. I' m sorry if you thought I was being harsh or rude.....I was just offering my 2 cents to Karin, only because I've been there....I wasn't trying to be a b-tch!!!! I'm sorry if it came off that way!!!!!!!

Re: need program help - dedication to deceased parent

thanks girls (both) for your honest opinions and I am taking both to heart.

I was actually considering changing 'emptiness' to 'void'. I do feel that emptiness everyday but I think void is better for the day of.

Colleen - im calling you soon about the montage. Thanks for all of your help and understanding

I am not doing a poem but something like this:

'To Aunt Ellen, Uncle Jim, and Grandma: we feel your love and guidance in our lives everyday and know that you are with us in spirit. We will continue to see you in our dreams.'
