Hi Karin. I don't know if i'm doing programs, but i am dreading the poem i'm planning on putting together for my father as well. i don't know if you want a poem, saying or something more personal b/c i have some threads saved of memory poems. you might be able to piece parts of each together to make something your own.

Karin, I think some of the poems can be cheesy - JMHO. I think a note to your dad from your heart would be better. something like, 'Dad, I miss you every day and I wish you could be here with me today, but I know you are watching over me. ' That's just the sentiment *I* would express if it were me - not meant to be what you should write. But I think that sort of a message would be more personal and heartfelt than any poem written by someone else, don't you think?

My cousin lost her dad about a year before her wedding - I just don't know how she did it.

We would also like to take a moment to honor those who have passed and those who could not be here today. We know that they are with us in spirit.

In Loving Memory

'We thought of you with love today
But that is nothing new
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too
We think of you in silence
We often speak your name
Now all we have are memories
And your picture in a frame
Your memory is our keepsake
With which we'll never part
God has you in his keeping
We have you in our hearts”

how does this sound?

Dad,
I seached endlessly for the perfect words to express my emotions today, as I marry my best friend. I came to the conclusion that there are no words. Nothing can express the emptiness I feel inside without you here. I miss you, more so with each passing day. I carry your memory in my heart and a day never goes by that you aren’t in my thoughts. I am never without you. Today, just as everyday, I carry you with me.

I miss you, I love you.

i really like this poem! i think whatever you choose to write will be a nice tribute - no one will be analyzing the poem and judging whether or not it's 'good enough' - everyone knows (will know) how much you love your dad and whatever you write will be very special!! don't stress too much!!!! xoxo

Re: need program help - dedication to deceased parent

Walk me down the aisle Dad
You’re the only one who can
Over these scattered rose petals
To where I’ll take his hand

Walk me down the aisle Dad
And fill my heart with peace
Whisper that you’re proud of me
Set my soul at ease

Walk me down the aisle Dad
Though it seems I walk alone
I carry you inside my heart
Life lessons not outgrown

Walk me down the aisle Dad
And dry my endless tears
My life’s forever changing
I miss you more each passing year

If God would grant me just one wish
I’d wish for one more day
For you to walk me down the aisle, Daddy
And give your daughter away.

KARIN!!! don't be reading those things!!! you'll get all upset!!

i think what you wrote was even more special because it came from your heart <3

Edited to say that I DO think that poem is very nice - i didn't mean to sound like i don't think it's a wonderful tribute to one's father!!!

Re: need program help - dedication to deceased parent

I'm in the same boat. It will be five years a week after I get married that my father passed away. He never wanted attention before or during his sickness (he had cancer) so I know he wouldn't want me to do a huge mention like a poem. Instead, inside of the program I'm dedicated an entire page to the people who couldn't be there (in memory). Of course, my father is listed first....

It's a very emotional time and every instance that someone asks me about my dad or makes me think of my dad (what song did you choose for your father/daughter dance?), I still cry.
