Need Reception Ideas! help

I am helping my friend plan her wedding. She would has a guest list of about 80-100. She would like something non-pretentious and relaxed. She and her FI are paying for it themselves and they don't have a lot of money. She was thinking about destination or other ideas. What thoughts do you guys have? It still needs to be beautiful, classy and nice....but probably not a typical reception.

Are there any destination weddings that are basically low cost if you guarantee a certain number of hotel rooms are booked?

I'm sure she can find a destination wedding for a low cost, but it is very dificult to plan from a far. My cousin is going through this right now. Also, when planning a destination, she should keep the cost the guests will incur in mind too. If most of her guests are local now, and they have to travel to go to the wedding, she may find that not as many people will be able to attend. Why not rent a hall/lodge and have it catered, or how about a back yard wedding? There are plenty of ways to do nice, with out breaking the bank.

If they want rustic, I think this is an awesome space. It's a barn. If they have a great imagination, tons can be done to it!!

There is also the George Washington Manor which is very pretty and accomodates smaller weddings....

Hope this helps!http://www.queensfarm.org/rent.html

There's also the big barn at Old Bethpage Restoration Village. I personally LOVE a backyard/ tent weddings. You have so much flexibility in terms of the menu, the style (you can go with the elegant sides, or make it less formal by just doing the top, the decor--it's literally a blank canvas. We do many tent functions here in NC, and they are almost always my favorite! HTHs.

Caffe on the Green in Bayside (Queens) has a room that can hold the amount of people she's thinking of. It's a historic house with a great restaurant on the first floor and reception rooms on the second floor. It's gorgeously lit up at night, and had very pretty gardens in the spring and summer.

Definitely worth checking out: http://caffeonthegreen.com/

George Washington Manor! I just got married there. They were extremely reasonable and the service was tremendous. They even have a free-standing chapel. It's an old mansion from the 1700's in Roslyn. Check it out.

Sunken Meadow pavillion, but no hotel involved & I think you need a caterer...but it's on the beach!
