Need serious hugs right now...wedding gown trouble!! ADVICE PLEASE!!!

So I ordered my dress back in November at a store in Queens. Alterations included and the staff were wonderful! Well long story short, my girls order their dresses (Bill Levkoff) from them, alterations included. Well tonight my final BM went to the store to put her money and measurements in and the ladies there were apparently on the phone with the owner who said that they would give us the dresses for $179 each but no alterations!! My BM of course calls me and tells me this and says the woman I'm dealing with called me so I should call them.

I get home call her up and she basically says that the reason there will be no alterations is b/c the store is closing this June/July and no one will be there to do them!!!!! I'm so mad and upset at this point I'm losing my mind!! That means my dress will not be altered for free (like was promised) and then they tell me that I should come in in the beginning of April to do alterations with the seamstress!! I'm like 'I'M GETTING MARRIED IN NOVEMBER, WHAT IF I BLOW UP LIKE A BALLOON OR BECOME A FRIGGIN PENCIL (<-- unlikely hahaha)!' So she's all apologetic and says I'm trying the best I can and now I'm in tears.

So in a nutshell though, my MOH called and argued with the owner who is giving my girls their money back b/c the order wasn't placed and blah blah blah...but my deposit is non-refundable so it's done! At this point I don't trust them b/c they definitely knew about this forever ago! My mom is so mad and doesn't want me to get the dress from them at this point and has already called Lillette's for Tuesday night!

I mean what would you girls do at this point?! Get the dress, hold it in your house and get it altered? Or try to find another one?! When we called Lillette's too the woman there was skeptical on the fact that my dress was going to be in when they said. I don't know...just so upset and feel like I'm back at square one. Just need some hugs and advice

If your BM's can get their money back then I would do that, but since you can't for your dress, I would just bring it home when it comes in and alter it later (did they say when they expect your dress to be in by the way??).

Or, you could call some other shops and ask if you can drop it off for them to hold onto until your ready to alter. Phyllis at Bridal Elegance seems to be really easy going maybe you can ask her.

Would you mind sharing with me which shop this was?? I live in Queens too.....FM me if you don't want to post it.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, I can't believe the nerve of that shop.....they had to have known they would be closing!!!

Honestly you have enough time to find an amazing seamstress that will make the dress look amazing on you!
These next couple of months are going to be magical and I wouldnt let this get in the way,. I agree that I would be furious as well, but their is a good amount of time to fix it!!

Good Luck & I know everything will turn out perfect 4 you!!!!

April is not that far away...so why not let them get it in...if they don't by the date promised then you could look elsewhere...and tell the owner to knock off $200 or more so that you can pay for alterations elsewhere...that were supposed to be free! good luck...sorry you are going thru this!!

I know an amazing seamstress in Queens, she does alterations for wedding dresses and BM's dresses all the time...My e-party dress had to get completely altered and she did a great job, but when i went in there, i remember seeing a bunch of wedding dresses and bm's dresses...If you need her info, FM me.

I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this. That's terrible. I was originally going to get my dress from Lillettes and they told me it could take up to 8 months to come in and that I was cutting it close by ordering it when I did (around a month ago). I called Phyllis at Bridal Elegance and not only did she tell me it would be in in 18-20 weeks, she saved me a bunch. She was a bit of a drive for me but soooo worth it. She is so sweet. Good luck!!

I would get the dress and hold it for alterations. Lots of brides pick up their dress and take it somewhere else for alterations, it's not that odd. I feel bad for you about the free part, though, but there isn't much you can do--unless you can convince them to refund part of the price.

Can you look at your contract? If it states it is included in the price and doesn't speculate that the deal is off if they close shop then they still have to provide the services or pay for you to get the same work done elsewhere.

That's a good point! I'm going to try and squeeze some more money off for this! Just a little nervous about storing the dress in my house...what if it turns yellow or something?! I'm just a nut! I worry too much Thanks for the advice though!

I am so sorry to hear the news!! I would definitely get your girl's money back....Take home your dress...If you feel uncomfortable about the size and think you may gain weight, then I would tell them to order you one size bigger. It's ok to alter up to one or two sizes down not good if you have to take out though....That's what I was told....Hang in there!! I hope everything works out!!

I'm having a private tailor look at my dress next week (friend's mom). She altered my dress a few years ago as a brides maid anb brought it in 2 sizes. She did a fabulous job.

try not to let this really get you down!!...you still have the dress you love and thank goodness your girls are getting their money back. i think i would just take my dress, and then just find another place that is good for alterations. GL! Sorry youre dealing with an inconvenience like this

Have your Bm's get their $ back. You can still get your dress through them, I would just have the alterations done somewhere else. They should have been honest and told you about it in advance, but maybe that is why they are closing.
