need some advice (a little long)

I have a friend who I've known for years. He dated this girl who was friends of one of my BM's. They recently broke up before one of my friend's weddings. They came together to that wedding even though they were broken up. My friend told me a few weeks ago that they never gave her a gift. They kept telling her they forgot it and they would get it to them ASAP. My friend got married in July and they still have not given them a gift. Now my family is telling me not to invite either of them to my wedding, but I already sent both of them STD's. Plus my friend (the guy in this whole thing) is friends with all of my friends so they would definitely know they werent invited to the wedding. Should I just suck it up and hope they will bring a gift or not invite them at all.

You really cant not invite someone bc they may not give you a gift. Theyre not obligated to give you one. Do i think its rude? Yes.

But if hes friends w you invite him. I wouldnt invite her unless youre very friendly w her though.

Agreed, just because they didn't give him a gift shouldn't be a reason not to invite them. If you're good friends with both and want them to be there, gift or no gift, then I would still invite them.

This. You (the general you, not you specifically) don't invite people just to get a gift, you invite them there because they are your friend and they matter to you and you would want them to share in your wedding day.

I definitely have friends who are not in the position to give a gift, and if they do it will be more of a token gift, certainly nothing equal to what I am spending per person - but that doesn't make me not want to invite them.

Yes, of course it is the general practice that people give gifts... but there is no hard and fast rule that says people have to.

Plus, etiquette says that they have up to a year to give a gift, so there is still time for them to give a gift for a July wedding.
