Need some advice- Bridal Shower

So, I know that I am not supposed to know anything about my shower, but I do. I know everything thanks to my MOH who doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut. It has been nothing but drama--which i will not go into fully i just wanted everyone's opinions. My MOH was trying to have my shower in a restaurant and it was going to run everyone $200-$400 bucks, but some people in my bridal party said they can't afford that. They offered to throw me a nice bridal shower in their backyard-tents, food catered from a great Italian restaurant, and decorations, sangria etc. They made it sound like it would be nice--and they would get discounts on everything because they are in the restaurant business. I have no problem with my shower being in a backyard. I am a very simple person. But it seems like my MOH kind of has a problem with it. She said that whatever no one can afford she will pay for, and i think that is wrong on so many levels. First of all, she can't afford to do that, and second i feel like that makes the other bridesmaids feel like crap. So, my question is....is there anything wrong with have a bridal shower in a nice backyard which is pretty big and nice??? Is it tacky? I would think it was fine to have my shower in the backyard if it wasn't for my MOH. UGH, Drama---she hates my FMIL and is causing me so much drama.

I'm sorry your MOH blew the surprise for you! But now that you know, it's your wedding and if you would like having your shower in a nice backyard, then why not? I don't see anything wrong or tacky with that at all! I know people who had showers at their BM's or FIL's houses. It actually sounds fun and laid back and I bet everyone would have an awesome time! Sorry about all the drama :(

i don't see anything wrong with a backyard thing. If your MOH wants to throw you something at a restaurant though, then you can just tell you that you feel bad about her having to pay so much more money than the other girls. I think that is very sweet of her to want to that for you though. She obviously really wants to make sure your shower is really beautiful :)

I am actually hoping for a backyard Bridal Shower. I feel people are more relaxed (me especially) and will meet our families with that feel rather than a restaurant where you kinda stick to your own friends, family, group.

FSIL threw a Bridal Party for her FDIL at the time, it was in a small restaurant, just our party, I kept to the people I knew and met only a couple new people because they were at our table. I'm the shy type when I first meet you. Once I know what you are like I open up more. I enjoyed myself, but I knew I didn't want that for me if it could be helped. It felt too stuffy, too upscale for me, the only thing worse would be having it at the Bay Club. It's beautiful, the food is good, but it makes me uncomfortable, like I should be using finger bowls between courses. lol

I think your MOH should do whatever makes you comfortable, it is about you, it is your day. My MOH already knows I don't like surprises, so tell me where and when and I'll be there, dressed accordingly.

I hope your MOH comes around to your way of thinking and relaxes a bit. It's also nice that she wants to pay the $ that the others can't meet, but that isn't fair to her and will make the others feel bad as you said. I know she is trying to make your day the best ever, before you are married, but she's only stressing you out.

Good Luck. Breathe. She may come around. I hope so.

My mom just threw me my shower at her house and I have to say it was more beautiful than any restaurant. Everyone had a great time and liked that you can walk around and mingle and not just sit at a table the whole time. I wish it was nice out to have it in the outside too. You need to do what you feel is best for you and those you care about. Sometime a bossy MOH needs to be put in her place

I think having a backyard shower is SOOO FAR AWAY from being tacky!! I wouldn't mind having a backyard shower at all. If that's what you want, I say go for it!

I think people are taking these showers too far with restaurants, banquet halls and the like. Having your shower in a nice backyard is way more relaxing and unrestricted than any of these places. A lot of times, you are not even ready to leave at the requested time and you are looking for somewhere else to continue the fun which usually ends up in someone's yard so you might as well start it there.

I think its a great idea to have your bridal shower in a backyard!as long as all your loved ones are there then you have nothing to worry about :)

There is nothing wrong with a backyard shower!! If I was not getting married in March I would have absolutely preferred it knowing it would be cheaper on my girls. I am a very simple person too and I agree with you.

I am sorry you have a maid of dishonorzilla ( this is what my MOH calls herself even though she is being the complete opposite!) She should not take it upon herself to shell out so much more then the other girls this should be a group effort and you chose your girls for a reason. I am sorry you are dealing witht he drama.

Thanks guys! I told my mom I want it in the backyard! I feel like it will be so much fun and more relaxed! I think my MOH wants it in the restaurant for convenience on her! I am actually scared of her, and i don't have a good feeling about how things are going to play out. I feel like she might back out. She already threatened to back out. And, honestly...i hope she does. It is an awful feeling but she is ruining everything! I am trying not to open my mouth to her because it will end in a fight which is what i am trying to avoid. Oh, another reason why she has a problem with the backyard is what if it rains, and she said we will look like hicks! Rude! If it rains there are tents and everyone can come inside the house-DUH! She was even complaining to my mom that the church is far and blah blah blah...why does she care how far the church is!!!! she will be in a limo! And, she was nit picking at my registry telling me what i need etc....leave me alone!!!! Sorry, just had to vent!

My friend had her bridal shower last summer in her mother's backyard and it was really nice! She had a tea party theme and being outside worked really well for her theme. Everyone enjoyed it!

Sorry that your MOH is ruining your surprise. Absolutely not! I threw my sister's bridal shower in one of my friends and her bridesmaids backyard and it was very nice, I have attended my friends in backyards before an they were very nice as well. Sounds like your MOH is not much of a good friend. Maybe you should open your mouth to her and express that I don't care where it is as long as ALL my bridesmaid agree and contribute, I don't want it financially all on you. A backyard bridal shower can be quite nice and laid back. (plus no time constriction). If she gets mad and backs out then you know she was never really there for you the way a MOH should be. it's better for that to happen now if it will than weeks before the wedding.

I actually wish my parent's house had a yard large enough to host my shower. That's what I always wanted.

Since your MOH ruined the surprise, and you feel like she isn't being fair to everyone, I would say something. You don't want to be stressed out over something that is supposed to be enjoyable.

My mom threw my shower and it was at an italian restaurant in Nesconset. Right on main st but I cant remember the name . It was beautiful and the food was great but Im sure it cost an arm and a leg. I would have much rathered a backyard shower. DH and I had our engagment party in my parents backyard and it was awesome! If thats what you really want put your foot down and tell your Monster of Honor that this is about YOU and its what YOU want. End of story.
