FH and I kind of had a fight today but its something ive been saying all along. This huge wedding is what HE has wanted all along i wanted something small low key... so i compromised and gave in to what he wanted. HE was assuming that my parents would be helping which at the time they wanted to. But i KNEW it would only be a small amount but was totally gracious that it was anything at all. But i dont work full time and FH doesnt make a huge salary so i wasnt quite sure where he thought we were getting 30k from for this wedding that i think is silly. Of course every little girl and big girl dreams of these amazingly perfect wedding but i knew there had to be a catch to mine. well 5 months after booking the hall i really feel we wont be able to afford it. especially what help we were getting from my parents we may not get now that my dad has had a heart attack and has lost his job (not from having a heart attack just the business is closing) and i refuse to put the stress of my wedding on his shoulders. WHAT DO I DO???
cancel and hope that we get all our money back? or hang out a little while and pray that things will change? im jsut really upset and not quite sure what to do since FH and I's views are clearly different. PLEASE HELP!

Re: need some advice? (kinda long)
i would def call majestic and speak to ur bm about the issue and see if they could help you out on your payments or at least see what they think that you should do and then i would def sit down with ur fh and go over your money situation and see if u are going to be able to swing it by...i def wouldnt want to stress your dad out after his heart attack because i understand my dad had one years ago and i felt the same way with other issues i was hvaing at the time and didnt want to bother him...but good luck and make sure you two talk it out!! and we are hear to talk to you and if it turns out u cant have this big wedding it doesnt matter as long as you two get married and spend your lives together!!

Re: need some advice? (kinda long)
def try and call the hall to discuss it wit your BM. most people understand financial problems, and hopefully they can rearrange some payment schedules for you. good luck and hang in there

I do too....and I hope that your RH may have some compassion and try to work with you! You have enough time to work it out, so i think everything will turn out for the best

Maybe you can cut down on the guest list...You said you already made payments and don't have to pay again for a year...I would say to sit down with FH and really calculate how much this will probably cost and see if you two can pay for it. After you do that, depending on what the answer is, either start saving up since you do have a year until your next payment, but at the same time there will be vendors to pay and other things to pay off so make sure you will be able to do that...If not call up your BM and see what they say...Most places you will lose the money unless you can find someone to take your date and even then not sure how much or if you will get your money back...There should be something about this in your contract on the back.
Good luck and i hope everything works out

Re: need some advice? (kinda long)
My friend is getting married this Feb. and she used wedding world in Commack. It's a one stop shop place and she got a nice package deal. I don't now the price off hand but they can customize packages with limos, flowers etc.
Worst case scenario.... Suffolk County law, as long as you give adequate time for the hall to rebook your date, they can't keep all your money!

I know this may not be ideal but you could rework your contract to an off peak time. Even having our wedding in April instead of June can make a difference!

I was going to say the same thing. It's just a date, all the matters is that you're marrying the man of your dreams.
Sorry you're stressing Meg

I hope it all goes okay for you both - I think as long as you have FH that's all that matters - underneath all the planning and stuff - as long as you have heart you'll be alright! (Easier to say I know - but like all the other girls said - speak with you BM and see if they can work with you... and think of other ways to make cuts overall...)
Best of luck to you and we are all here for you when you need us!!!!

I totally agree with everyone. You should call up and speak with your BM about your situation. There are alot of basic packages and cheaper companies (that are still great) you can go with in regards to your limos, dj/band, photographer, etc. that will make them a lot more affordable. Also there are so many DIY projects that you can do for your wedding (invitations, placecards, centerpieces, favors, etc.) that will make your wedding look like you spent a million bucks

Re: need some advice? (kinda long)
you have many options so i dont think you should give up - even though the big wedding wasnt your original dream it sounds like it is something the two of you were looking forward to!
try pushing the date back ESPECIALLY to the winter months - HUGE difference!
i know you said you dont have to pay for another year but maybe you can work out a payment plan where you pay a little bit each month - that way it won't be so bad at the end. . . and if there is a month where you can't make a payment they really don't care since they just want all the money in the end anyway, this is more of a structured payment plan to make it easier on you
switch to a day time wedding. . . a sunday wedding
there are so many options and i think you will be able to work it out!
Good luck and we are here for you no matter what you decide!

I agree with everyone - you should call your BM and explain the situation to them and maybe they could help you out a little bit. Also, you could try and cut down the guest list or switch the month/time/day of your wedding.
Good luck Megan, I hope everything works out!

Re: need some advice? (kinda long)
I went through this before I booked the hall. I called my mother every other day saying it was too fast, maybe I should wait...but then crying because I didn't want to wait 2 years. We were already living together, the wedding is just a formality that I NEED to do so I feel like I'm starting my family under the right conditions. I never wanted a big wedding until I got engaged-- then it all spiraled out of control.
My mother said that they would help with the RH costs, and FH and I both got a second job to save money for EVERYTHING else...which is still a ton of $$ we don't have.
I feel that it will somehow work out though....and I'm sure it will work out for you too.
Maybe Nick can get another job-- I know alot of cops do security on the side.
I know you are already working and going to school full time...so a second job is prob. out of the question...but any money you get, make sure you save most or all of it. Every little bit helps
Good Luck Meg!!!

Hey Meg.. Im sorry you are going through all this .. it stinks. I am stressing myself since fh lost his job I hope he can find something quickly. Having said that... think about it.. you have a year. If this is the place you would love to get married keep your hall. Go a little bit cheaper with flowers...(make your own cp maybe with candles) get a cheaper photographer, dj, do a lot of diy's.. also maybe over the summer months you can work a little more or get a second job to make up some costs. Hth fm me if you need someone to talk to.

Im soo sorry to hear that! First off i would definately call bm..to see what he might be able to work out with you! Or what about considering a change in day, month, or season..that may help you to save a lot of money! especially if the wedding is held off peak (Nov. - March)
