So FH and I are moving into our apartment in a week and I am trying to get my stuff in order and I am COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED!!!! Do any of you who have done this already have some advice that maybe could help me stress less? I dont know, maybe a trick to packing that I have not thought of???? I'll take anything...I am so overwhelmed and I cannot seem to calm down...FH is at the golf range with his friend right now and clearly not phased by this....he laughs at me when I get stressed I have always lived home so this is all new to me...

Re: Need some advice please
Here is some advice and take t from me because I have done this 13 times in my life:
Don't try to do everything at once when you get into the apartment. Leave the decorating for when everything else is packed away nicely in your cabinets and closets.
Don't pack your clothes in boxes. Take everything out ot your closet and leave them on the hangers. Group like 10 pieces together and throw a garbage bag over them. It is SO much easier to hang it all up and so much easier than folding everything and putting them in boxes.
Don't make your boxes too heavy and try not to get awkwardly big boxes that you wont be able to carry.
Christen the apartment the very first night........if you have the energy!!!!

Re: Need some advice please
I was overwhelmed when I was moving out of my apartment to move in with FH. Everywhere I looked there was something I needed to deal with. I just picked one thing and tackled it, then the next thing, then the next thing. Just doing them one at a time and finishing them felt like an accomplishment, after which it didnt feel so overwhelming.

Definitely do a little bit at a time. I would suggest starting off with stuff that you really don't use everyday. Then work on your clothing and shoes that you aren't using now because it's so nice out. Just a little bit at a time and you'll get it all over to the new place!

Also make sure that you label each box with the room that it should go in. This way as you move in you can put them in the correct room right away and not have a big mess in the Living Room.

I second that thought. I also agree with don't pack the boxes too heavy, and don't use very large boxes. It makes it seems so much more overwhelming.
Good luck Marisa, you can do it!!! You'll be fine...just keep thinking of the end result. I think the first time I moved I was in my 20's and I thought it was the best thing ever, Yah, that didn't last long. When I had to move again, I dreaded it and have dreaded it every single time since. Very overwhelming but the reward is that you get to have your very own place with FH and when everything is put away you can sit back and relax and say 'wow, we (okay probably mostly you) did this'

You are getting GREAT advice!! Just wanted to tell you to take some breaths and take a break if you get overwhelmed. There's no reason it all needs to be done RIGHT AWAY.

I have moved 5 times in the last 7-8 years. Twice with FH. I had lots of boxes and agree with an earlier post. Do not make the boxes too heavy. Pack a few more instead - and with your closet- keep everything on the hangers - less work than having to rehang everything. My mom helped us by putting kitchen cabinets together - glasses, plates, etc. Take a few deep breaths and you will be alright. This is a great time in your lives.

Yea, things like this don't really phase FH. We moved into our apartment a little over 2 months ago. I wasn't stressed, per se, just overwhelmed. When packing, I did a section of my room a day (desk - 1 day, books - another day) and label them so it's easier to organize and unpack when you get there. It'll all work out in the end, it always does!

Re: Need some advice please
take a deep breath!! I just did this last week!
I had my brother and mom help me. I came from my childhood home, so I have the advantage of taking things bit by bit.
I agree - keep clothes on hangers and use lots of big black garbage bags! Take it little by little and pack and pack - dont try to get everything done in one day!!!
Dont think as soon as your in that u need to have everything put together either. Work together. We did the kitchen and the bathroom, then the bedroom.
My living room is all boxes, put neatly for now. Im not putting that together until after the wedding. Tooo overwhelming!!!!
