Need some advice re: BM hair/makeup

This is going to be kinda long...I'm sorry.

Ok, so last month was my MOH's wedding. We got our hair done at a local salon ($50 per updo) and makeup done by a her family friend ($20 each). It was awesome b/c it was so cheap.

Now I'm feeling ridiculously guilty. I've been searching for places near the RH and hotel because I'm getting ready at the hotel. There are two places I've found. One charges about $85-95+ for updos (they couldn't even quote me an accurate range!?) and the other place starts at $75+. Both do makeup. The first charges on $55+ for makeup, the second charges $75 for regular,. $85 for airbrush.

Now, I'm not making anyone get either done. If they want to, they are more than welcome to do so; if thety don't want to - no big deal... But I feel like my MOH and my other BM (who was also in my MOH's wedding) are going to complain big time. My MOH already made a mean comment to the other BM about the price of my hair person (who I wouldn't have them use, b/c I realize she's charges a lot for BMs).

So I feel like a bad person because the cost of the local places is far more than my MOH paid.

What should I do?

Using the place my MOH used is out of the question b/c its far from my RH/hotel.

I'd really like to have everyone together the morning of the wedding while hair/m.u. is done, b/c my photog is taking pictures there.

I feel so guilty - ughhhhhhhh

I kinda felt the same, so I am paying for my BM's makeup as part of their gift. They will pay for hair. Initially, before I thought of doing this, I was going to use whoever I chose for hair and then have someone else who was a bit less costly come to do their hair. I am getting ready at a hotel and want everyone to come to me. Just a thought....

Just have ur MOH with you and have m/u done w/ everyone....see if you can get a cheap m/u artist or hire someone seperate.....

Call Carolyn and Sabrina- they're vendors on here and they're usu willing to travel.

fresh face forward is doing mine and my BM's hair (make up only for me), but they charge less than the prices you've been quoted, and they go to you day of. maybe you can get them to do just your BMs. their prices are on their website. they're a vendor on here, they're under make up.

There is no way i can afford to pay for hair/m.u. - hence why it's 100% totally optional. I don't want anyone to feel like they HAVE to get it done. Our wedding is pretty casual anyway.

So I wanna use one of the two salons I posted earlier...but I feel bad. I don't think the prices are unreasonable, given what I've seen on here....but at the same time, I KNOWWWWWW my MOH is going to compare it to what sheeee did.

I'm feeling the same way because I don't want my BMs to pay all this money! There are people that can come to you and are cheaper than what you were quoted from the salons.

What about seeing if your MOHs family friend could do your wedding too?

I'm not really concerned about the makeup. I feel like the majority of the girls in my BP don't wear much to begin with. I have a feeling that most, if not all, will do their own.

My big concern is the hair....

That is tough but very nice of you to make it optional. If you let them know the prices well in advance if they really want it- they will save for it and go for it.... If not, no biggie and the prices are what they are... Different areas/ different times/ different prices.

Do you know if they'd just do BMs???

i'm not sure, but it's def worth asking them. they're really sweet, also newlyweds, so they've just gone through this. they're doing hair for me and my BMs (total of 4 girls), and make up just for me - my BMs are doing their own make up. you can email them at [email protected]. they're very good at emailing back within a day.

Where is your RH? Sissi Chan is GREAT and very reasonable. Also Stacy Pitts from STyles on B is very reasonable ( I think 50 or 60 for hair).

I don't think Stacy will go out there but here is Sissi's information

[email protected]

She's great. Look at my ephotos. She did the hair and makeup. $50 bucks for the hair and $50 for makeup.

Have you considered Cactus Salon? I wonder how their prices are.... You can always contact the hotel too and ask them for recommendations for salons that aren't too expensive.

I second Sissi...she did my hair and makeup for my e-pics if you want to check out her work. I asked for natural looking makeup.

She is doing my BM's too. She has also worked on brides with Angelica as the photog before, so they totally know each other.

I don't have any advice for you Bon but I'd just like to point out that regardless of what you do - I have a feeling your MOH will talk about it anyway.

You're between a rock and a hard place.

I'd preface it with 'I know you were able to get hair and mu a lot less expensive but these are the prices I was quoted - whatever you want to do go for it but either way I'd really like you to get ready with me.'

Re: Need some advice re: BM hair/makeup

I understand where you are coming from. I was in my friends wedding last month and she paid for 10 (!) of us to get our hair and makeup done. I, unfortunately, cannot do the same. If your MOH is complaining about the price and seeing as she just recently had to go through this herself, why dont you ask her to help you get more price quotes? Then, if she can't find anything cheaper, she really can't complain.
Hope everything works out!

I say give them the option of using the stylist you recommend for the price they charge, or let them use their own stylist....make-up should be optional.
