Hi I'm pretty new to this...

I booked the Westbury Manor for August 09, I'm trying to get prices for Photographers and Video... I just want an idea of what to expect... I paid a bit more per person so I'm trying to budget better... Thanks for any help!

Hi
I understand where your coming from. I have seen a few photographers and have met one guy who I liked alot, he's very personable and a newlywed himself. He's giving us a package of video and photgraphy at just over $3,000. Which is actually really good. We get prints-which with the digital era most photographers are just giving a cd with your proofs, a 40 page album with digital layout pages, thank you cards, engagement photo session, 2 parents albums, 11x14, 16x20 print of your choice, 8hrs of photography, the disc with all of your pictures and a 90 minute video. IBut best of all his pictures are beautiful. t seems that the prices go up when you start talking going into the subject of the album. Thats when things get pricey. Agood thing to find out also from the photographer is if you get to own the rights to your pictures, otherwise you can't print them as you wish, you will ave to go back to him to order prints, adding to the expense again. I have learned ALOT in planning this wedding, but it will all be worth it in the end. Good Luck

what i found w/ photographers was A LOT of variety in terms of what comes standard, packages and pricing. i would at least get information from or meet with a bunch so you can make an educated decision. we're paying $6,000, but this is an area we're splurging on.

Expect to pay an average of 4K for a great photographer. Check out Duet. They are fabulous!

For videography we decided we weren't going to do it unless we could find someone we REALLY loved because it just didn't seem worth spending thousands of dollars on a video that we wouldn't enjoy watching... luckily we found (through this website) Tim Smith, I actually just got home from leaving my deposit with him and I'm super excited!! His prices are really reasonable, especiallly for that quality. You can get a good package with him for $3000. It's more expensive if you want Tim to do the filming himself, but he does the editing on all of the videos anyway and that's really what you're paying for, so you get the same quality for less $ if you book with one of the guys who work for him.

his website is timalanstudios.com if you want to check him out too.

ETA: IMO, the photos and video are what you're going to have left to show your kids, etc... so they deserve a good amount of investing. Stuff like flowers and place cards, etc.. are only for one day... the pics n video are what you're going to have left in the end.

Good luck!!!

I'd have to disagree, we are paying a little more than 2K for our photographer and they are a reputable company that many LIW brides and past friends and family have used. Not to mention their pics are beautiful and unique. Video was much more, but that is our splurge vendor because our videographer is amazing!! FM me if you want any further info!

Re: Need some help!!

my friend was originally going to do our photography for free, but due to some issues (mixing friendship and business) and wanting to avoid future problems we went with a 3rd party and she's just going to take pictures as the mood hits her. because of that though, we didn't budget for photos. at the same time, i just couldn't justify spending thousands of dollars because it's 'WEDDING' photography, you know? so i did a lot of shopping around and research and we ended up going with a photojournalist (he's a traditional photojournalist, works for magazines, papers, news stories, etc.), got a basic package (just the proofs and a photographer's pick cd) and are spending about $900. this guy is a friend of my cousin's dh and did her wedding, so in addition to his portfolio i got her as a reference and got to check out her picks and hear a really honest review of him. plus i really like the photojournalistic (and his) style. it's really spontaneous and in the moment - not posed - which i like. there's definitely GOOD but reasonable photographers out there, you just have to search around.

as for videography, we're not doing it. we're never going to watch it, so why spend the money? that's just us though. if you want it, go for it, just shop around and don't be afraid to negotiate!

photography and video was a big issue for me because so many vendors are charging crazy $$ and even more for albums and I def. need an album. I ended up booking with Rendezvous Photography. They have excellent packages and very reasonable prices. Best of all, I will get 2 photographers for the entire day (very long day..ceremony starts at 3 reception at 8:30) and I'm getting an album and lots of enlarged prints.

I think you should definitely check them out, I loved their work.

Here is what I found searching for photo video. Think about what you're looking for. You'll hear PHOTOJOURNALISTIC (one part of picture b&w the other part color etc) thrown around left and right...they may claim it's not more expensive but if you dont have a photojournalistic photographer the price amazingly goes down. I opted to go without that. Some people love it but I couln't care less. I wanted more candid shots and less posed. I love candid photography so I went with one that specializes in candid. Here are some other things I didn't know going to my first meetings:
*some have 2 photographers for same price as others have 1
*how they set up the album, # of pics, # of albums
* # of proofs, printed proofs or DVD proofs, are the proofs watermarked??? If yes, you can't copy them
*getting ready pics?
