Need some input (long)...

Need some input (long)...

Ladies, I am beginning to freak out. We just booked the Vineyard for 3/29/03 - originally we planned on getting married in December 03, but just couldn't wait that long. The problem is I am just starting my 3rd year of medical school and will be in the middle of it for the wedding. I have no time off before (or after) the wedding at all. All I will have is 3 weeks in December to get all the last minute things done. After reading some recent posts about how much there is to do the last few weeks, I am getting really stressed that I am not going to be able to pull it off. The other thing is, we live in NYC and don't have a car- so coming to LI is always a project. I will have the weekends and my mom to help. ANy insight on how realistic it is for me to think I can get most things done in December? What usually has to be done last minute? I don't want to be a basket case near the end and not be able to enjoy the process. Thanks for listening.

Before you do anything, think carefully. From my experience (my wedding is less than 1 month away) planning my fairly small wedding of 60 guests, my vendors want to meet with me to finalize stuff starting at 6 weeks before. Final payments, looking at samples, is done one week before. So, even if I wanted to do it earlier, I couldn't have because that's the schedule they work on. If you have your mom to help and the weekends, you should be fine. I've been planning my wedding for only 5 months, and although it's small, I haven't had much help, but have still been able to get most things done within the first 3 months. Now, it's little things like the seating chart, payments, final dress fittings, addressing thank yous, finalizing song lists. My father said to me 'you'll only stress about what you choose to stress about'...so, I think you'll be fine!
Good luck with planning and school

You should be ok. We didn't have a car, lived in the city and were fine. We only had one meeting w/ all vendors. Payments were done either via credit card or by check via mail.
The only vendors we met with more than once before the wedding were the hall to chose menu, then to drop off seating plan/place cards/favors. And the dress fittings. Afterwards, we met several times with the photographers for album stuff.

Vendors will work with your schedule. Especially since your wedding will be in the off season, you should have no problems.

You could hire someone to help you with this or have you mom do most of it. You are going to have to give up a lot of control but that can also be great.

Most of the stuff is just details the last few days before the wedding. The seating arrangements is the hardest part and you can start doing that as RSVP's come in.

Towards the end of the year start making a chart. Just make a table on a word document and make spaces for the vendor, vendor contact, phone number, notes of what they need bring/set up and the times they should arrive, etc. I did this for myself and had my mom's best friend monitored everything for me the day of the wedding. She had everything written down for the day in order and was able to check things off and make sure everything went smoothly without me or my mom having to worry about it. So perhaps you can delegate someone to do this and give them the chart a few weeks/days before the wedding so they can familiarize themselves with it. Then just let it go and you'll enjoy the time much more.
