Need some Unity Candle inspiration!

Original post by PSP

Hey girls,

Could you post your unity candle if you have one? I'm DIYing mine and now have come up blank.

I'm not liking anything anymore except plain candles.

I know I might regret it later if I leave them blank so if you could help a girl out and get me back into the wedding mode, that'd be great!

Pretty things please

omg can you post your tutorial.. i really would love to do this!!

THIS IS FROM MY ORIGINAL POST.....IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO ASK!

FOR ALL YOU WHO WANTED TO KNOW HOW I MADE THIS:

SO I bought candles from Michaels.
In Microsoft word I just made the writing and I copied the heart from searching google images--- hearts lol
I then took a piece of regular printer paper and a piece of tissue paper (yes the ones you put in presents) and used scrapbooking tape. I put a little bit on the end on the printer paper and fastend the tissue paper to the reg paper. Dont put too much bc you have to take it off. This just helps the tissue paper have more support. Run it through the printer.

After your done pull the tissue paper off the printer paper. Dont worry if it tears. Then with sissors, cut around the wording. Doesnt have to be perfect and you'll see why. Then lay the cutout on the candle. Once you have it placed where you want it, take a piece of wax paper and wrap it around the candle. It is smart to make the wax paper bigger than the candle so it bunches in the back. It just serves as a handle for the support. Then take a hair dryer and heat the cutout. Be sure to more the heat around. The heat will actually start to melt the candle and tissue paper as it dissolves into the candle. You will notice the cutout will start to get shinny when that happens it is melted enough. Slowly lift the wax paper off the candle to see if the tissue paper is completely dissolved, if it is just rub the tissue paper over the top to smooth everything out.

Once, thats done just add ribbon and whatever else you want.

I know it sounds a lot more complicated than it is, but its soooo easy. I just googled it last night and then tried it today.

I also saw some chick you those rub on scrapbooking transfers. That look really easy but I couldnt find any with a good saying

Here are a couple different videos I looked at. HTH and some of you try it yourself bc I was really fun!

OH YEAH! One more question... does the writing or picture you have on your candle look faded or dulled out because of the wax on it? I can't tell so much from the pictures.

Its a little faded because the tissue paper is only so thick and only absorbes some of the ink. You will notice when you print it, that some of the ink will bleed through onto the backing paper. Its not going to be as black as if it was printed on regular paper.

It is a little less bright because of the wax over it. But there is no problem reading mine. It's very clear, just not as 'bright' I guess.

If I would be doing my ceremony @ the rception hall, would I need to have a unity candle or is it just for church ceremonies?

It's not just for full masses or just for church ceremonies. However, you get to decide what goes into your ceremony! So it's totally up to you if you want the unity candle or not!

I am confused how does the tissue paper not get stuck in the printer? My printer eats everything.

Also, is it supposed to be the same tissue paper colour as the colour of the candle?

See, I'm very confused :(

Try taping it to a regular piece of printer paper. As for the color, my candle is white - so I just used regular white tissue paper. It blends in perfectly.

Totally, unity candles are not required in church or anywhere - it's just something that a lot of people do because they like it. We didn't have one at our Catholic church ceremony because I've been at so many weddings where the candle didn't light or the one of the two candles went out when they were trying to light the main one, etc.
The very idea just stressed me out and I just didn't want to have to worry about it!

My candle was ivory, the tissue paper white. It dissolves into the candle so it blended right in.
