Need some words of comfort, received sad news today

Hi ladies,
I dont mean to be a drag, but I found out today my grandmother (my dad's mom) doesnt have long to live. The doctors are giving her 3 - 6 months. She had lung cancer over the summer, and it was in remission but it came back and it spread. She has it from head to toe and there's nothing they can do about it. My mom thinks its not the cancer that is killing her, its a broken heart. My grandfather passed away 6 years ago and she hasnt been the same. I am really upset about this because she'll never see me get married (Sept 18, 2004). She never even met my FI. (She lives in Florida)

I could use some words of comfort. FI has been really great and told me when its our wedding she may not be there physically, but she will be there in our hearts and in spirit. But even hearing that makes me cry.

I'm sorry, that is terrible news. Is there any way you can go see her in Florida with your FH? She WILL be there in spirit, you will be able to feel her presence around you when you are getting married. I'm very sorry you have to go through this. We are here for you

I'm so sorry about your grandma Melissa My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family. Since she hasn't met your FH, is there anyway that you can go to FL for the weekend to visit her? I'm sure she would love to see you and your wonderful FH. Just a thought.

Thank you ladies. Just having you ladies to talk to is all I need. I'd like to go and see her for a few days, but I just started a new job and I dont have any vacation days. FI starts his new job January 6 and he doesnt have any days yet. He occrues them.

I called her tonight and she sounded ok, but its still very heartbreaking.

I understand it's a new job, but can't you speak to them? They have to have some compassion. They have to understand that your grandma is No. 1 right now. I would give it a try.

Thats true, they have to understand. I'll talk to my boss on Monday. I am sure they will. They have been so wonderful and nice and I am sure they'll have compassion about this.

I just lost my g-ma and I know how hard it can be. My comfort was knowing that she did not suffer. Pray that she does not feel too much pain. She will definitely be at your wedding if she does not live in spirit. Its easier said than done, but keep your chin up. Prayer changes things. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. {{{}}}} I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother. My FMIL has lung cancer that is back for the third time. She has already had 3/4 of her lung removed and they can't take anymore or she would need a respirator. It is a horrible disease and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Would you consider and could you afford a trip to visit her??? It might mean a lot to her, and in the grand scheme of thing it might be good for you too, esp if she never met FH

Maybe that's why you got the xtra cash in your account. Live for the momemt and use it for this - you didn't think you had it and hadn't budgeted for it

Regardless of what you do, I am sure your GM is happy you have met your special person

I really think you should make an attempt to go see her with your FI. Under the circumstances how can they not give you or him a few days off?

Chippa: I'm sorry to hear what you're going through, especially when wedding planning. Try and visit her, even if for a weekend, if it's impossible though, I'm sure she'll understand. You're in my thoughts and my prayers.

Jet Blue has flights to florida that leave friday evenings - even if you just go down there on a friday night, rent a car and stay in a hotel, and go see her for the day saturday and then fly home sunday - you won't regret it. I didn't get a chance to introduce my DH to my grandmother before she died - but I did go down there just for one day, and I showed her his picture, and I told her how wonderful he was, and that I thought he was the 'one' (this was before we were engaged) - I was so glad I did. I'm sorry for what you're going through, my prayers are with you and your family.
