I am losing patients with nails. They have always been weak & break easily. I just don't have the time to always paint them, and I shower sometimes 3x a day, so when they are soft from water the polish peels..
Should I get tips? Or is there a better method?

Re: Need Tips/Nail advice
IMO, the tips will just make your nails weaker. I swear by Nailtiques- you can get the formula for weak, breaking nails. Its $15-$20 a bottle, but well worth it. Apply a coat every other day and you'll see the difference!

Re: Need Tips/Nail advice
Jenny,I have weak nails as well. I go back and forth between natural and tips (right now they are natural). On me, tips look 100 times better because of the weakness and shortness of my nails. I personally like them but I find them high maintenance. And, as careful as I try to be, I always manage to break a couple before fill-ins. Have you tried any of the nail hardeners first to see if you get an improvement? They might get you results. I say if you really want tips, they are great for weak nails and always look so pretty. If you have never had them, it is so funny how all of a sudden you want to show off your hands (I was always ashamed of my hands) Another thing to keep in mind, nice tips compliment the ring very nicely!!!

Re: Need Tips/Nail advice
i have acrylic tips but if they are not put on right, and they lift, and you take alot of showers you can get water in them and they might get fungi in between the nail and skin.
Before you go that route have you tried any of the Sally Hansen nail stuff to make your nails harder? It does work, I don't use it myself but my sister did and she had very weak nails and it helped alot.

No matter what I tried, I could never get my nails to grow and stay strong, so I get silk overlays.

Re: Need Tips/Nail advice
I strongly suggest silk tips. I had them on for years until recently. I decided to hold off a little bit to save some money and I really don't have much time anymore to go. I miss them When I got them taken off, my nails underneath are perfect. They are healthy and long. I do use a gel coating to keep them strong but I love silk tips. I never had a problem with them. I don't recommend acrylic. They are not a healthy choice for your nails and silk tips look more natural. I was going to get Nailtiques but $17.99 for a small bottle just seemed like a lot of money for me so I use Sally Hanson's Gel instead.

Re: Need Tips/Nail advice
I have a formula.... I had tips for many years while I was bartending, but I really hate them, so I devised an alternate plan.
Once a week I do this....
one coat of Age Corrective growth by Sally hansen. his is pink & actually looks kinda like a faint french when you are done. This fills in any weak spots & smooths it out like ridgefiller. It also has some calcuim thing to strenghten nails.
one coat of Thicken up also by Sally hansen. this stuff is really thick, so you may want to wait a while before proceeding to the next step.
once a day for the next 6 days I add one coat of Diamond strength also by sally hansen. It seals in the other stuff.
Of course if you want to add nail polish, do it before the Diamond Strength stuff.
If you do this for a couple of weeks, you will not need to add the diamond strenght once a day once your nails begin to grow in stronger.
Also, there is a vitamin (I forgot where I saw it) called Healthy Nails & Hair. My friend swears by it!
ETA: my nails are stronger and grow longer than they ever did in my whole life..... I began this treatment while my nails were still weak from just having acrylic, so I find it to be really effective.

If the tips are put on corrrectly and you go where they know what they are doing they should be healthy underneath. I have had tips on for 3 years, gave my nails a break here and there, and my nails are strong underneath. I go to a place in the East meadow,No Bellmore area if you are interested in where I go Fm mail me.

Re: Need Tips/Nail advice
I normally have terrible nails because I bit them most of my life. Then I had tips and my real nails turned to total mush. They break, split, crack and peel and generally look like crap. Then I went for a manicure and the owner of the salon who was doing my nails recommeded Rejuvicote. It is $12.00 for a small bottle, but for the first time ever my nails are strong and growing. It's used as a base and top coat and then you put on a coat every day. Even Nailtiques did not work for me, but this stuff did. I also get a manicure every week, which is my treat to me and I think that has helped quite a bit also. Also I make sure I moisturize every time I wash my hands.
