Need to settle an argument....please help!!

DH and I don't agree on this, and he swears I'm nuts. I tell him it's just a fact of life.

Do you keep the doors locked even if you're home?

DH said there's no need to have the doors locked if we're home, I told him there is such a thing as a break in, and there is no reason to leave it open.

We lock it when we go to sleep but sometimes we actually leave the screen door closed but the front door open, if there's a breeze.

We have a small place so we're never far from the front door. I don't worry about breakins during the day. Only at night.

I am not diligent about locking my doors if I'm just sitting - you can't enter my building without a special key so I don't worry. But when I'm showering or leaving - yeah, that door is locked.

IF I WAS IN MY OWN HOUSE I WOULD ALWAYS LOCK THE DOORS. IN MY MOTHER IN LAWS HOUSE SHE NEVER LOCKS THE DOOR.

I always lock the door, whether I'm home or not. fh tends to leave the door unlocked when we're home, and locks it when we are out. He thinks it's because I grew up here (Manhattan), whereas he grew up in LI.

I ALWAYS LOCK THE DOOR!!! Especially cause we live on the top floor of a 2 family house! I honestly think I would want to lock the door more if I were home than if we were out. If soneone wants to break in, let them steal whatever they want but I dont want to be around for it!!!!

The only time we lock the door is when we're both out of the house, but if either one of us is home, we keep the doors unlocked.

Let me put it this way....my in-laws live in Syosset of all places and in the 22 years they've lived in their house, up until 2 years ago, they'd locked it ONLY when they went on vacation....then within the past 2 years, there have been break-ins and a series of 'strange men' walking around neighborhoods and most recently, there were 'gunmen' entering homes in the middle of the night holding the residents at gunpoint and robbing htem...they didn't shoot anyone that I recall....but none the less...these perps purposely entered the homes when they knew these people would be home. They now lock their doors at night.

We lock our doors at home because I'm a lock fanatic...I feel more secure...I lived in a very rural area as a kid and you had to secure all the doors because you'd never hear anyone approaching.

ETA-when we lived in Queens, I locked that door all the time...but the weather started goofing with the wood and eventually, you couldn't lock the deadbolt at all...and on some days, you couldn't lock the doorknob [from the outside], so we left it unlocked when we were out and locked when we were in!

i leave everything open all the time and FH locks everything like were in lockdown.

Absolutely! We lock the doors even when we're home. All those news stories about home invasions...you never know what could happen.

my door is always locked even if we're home.

Where I grew up the doors were always unlocked during the day, but will be locked at night

It depends. If I am home by myself I keep it locked. If it is nighttime and no one is going out again we lock it. But if it is the afternoon, we don't bother usually. I think it is all a matter of what you are comfortable with.

I lock..... all the times as well as DH. Door AND windows. I only leave windows open while in the house during the day only. DOORS ARE LOCKED ALL THE TIME AND WINDOWS ARE CLOSED AND LOCKED AT NIGHT.
