Need to talk with my landlady.

Need to talk with my landlady.

My landlady is awesome.

She's 81. She has a boyfriend. She's always active and out doing stuff. Loves the casinos. Cooks a mean minestrone, which she always gives to me in a Tupperware. Bless her, she's incredibly young at heart.

She goes away for the winter, shortly after the holidays...which means, soon. She comes back in mid-April.

I have to tell her that I'm moving out. She knows I'm engaged and while I know giving 30 days notice is the norm, I'd rather tell her before she leaves so she can start spreading the word that she'll have this apartment available starting July 1st.

I'm so sad and nervous about telling her...I've been there for 5+ years and she's been awesome. She's never even raised my rent in all that time! Wish me luck...this talk will be happening this week

Maybe if you ask around someone you know might want to rent from her. Then at least she can start checking.

She sounds nice.

Good Luck Kris!!! But it sounds like she probably knows that you will be moving out. And you are so wonderful giving her this much notice.

Good Luck but I think you will be fine

About a 10-15 minute walk to the train (Forest Hills/71st), depending on how fast you move

It's a one bedroom...not that big, not that small.

I'm a-scared of telling her.

That's so sweet that you want to give her that much notice! She's sooooo going to miss having you as a tenant!

Don't worry about talking to her though, she'll probably be happy for you and wish you the best of luck!

That is tough when you have a good relationship with the person...

I rented to this awesome couple when I owned my first house and after they got married they bought a house and they felt so bad telling me they were leaving.... it was kind of funny becasue here I was a 26 year old kid and they were both in their early-mid 20's... she looked like she was going to cry!!!!

I think she will miss you but she'll appreciate the early notice. Maybe offer to put it on craigslist for her and screen candidates.
