NEED. TO. VENT.

NEED. TO. VENT.

I need to vent...sorry its loong !

First a bit of background... so FH is Austrian, and since his family is older than mine I knew they wouldn't be able to or want to fly over to the US for our wedding, so we decided to get married there. And its easier for us since we live in Germany. When I first brought it up, one of my aunts was really excited about it and was like 'o yea, we will definately be there.' They were planning on coming over for the wedding and then meeting up with some friends who are also going to be over here.

Welll...My mom just told me that when my Aunt came to visit her last week my mom was saying that I should be a travel agent since I always do such a good job making their travel arrangements for them and find cheap airline tickets and good deals n stuff..and apparently my aunt was like ' Well if she wants to get married over there she has to do it' in a real snippy tone.

I won't go into the details cuz it will be TOOOO long... but is it really my JOB to book thier flights, hotels, rental cars and come up with a day to day itinerary for the entire 10 days they will be here when they don't even contact me to let me know what exactly their plans are. And besides...they should be just as capable of looking up hotels in cities they want to visit as I am. Thank goodness most of their stay will be after the wedding, but still..its not like I don't have a wedding to plan (which I am doing with pretty much no help..except for you guys of course!! )

Now I'm almost regretting that they are coming because I know they will be complaining the whole time they are here... they need hotels with air conditioning and elevators..well newsflash..if u wanna stay in the 'old town' part of Prague..you won't find that stuff! And they don't wanna walk anywhere..well another newsflash...if you want to do sight seeing and explore the city..u might need to walk a bit! GRR..I don't need this added stress.

Re: NEED. TO. VENT.

My friend got married in Switzerland and made a website that had flight information, hotels, sites and services in the area etc. Her and her mom did a lot of the work. The wedding spanned over 3 days with a rehearsal like dinner the night before, a full day of wedding the next day, and a day after brunch. Thw website even gave suggestions on what to wear to rehearsal (traditional Swiss or informal dinner clothes).Lots of the guests had no problems booking things on their own since they had all the information right online to look at. Maybe your FILs can help by suggesting and researching things in the area. She even had a part on the website to post questions and this eliminated having to call people back.

Sounds like they have a lot of expectations about everything and when they don't get it, they drop bombs on everyone. I know a few friends that like to do the same, which is why they are not my bridesmaids because it'll make me nuts!! I'm happy they are staying longer after your wedding!!

I didn't have that far of a destination wedding but my MIL wanted to have the bridal party stay together. She found 2 condos which would hold us.

The people that came, she gave them ideas of where to stay but that was about it. How long they wanted or what they wanted to do was up to them.

I don't think you should have to be their travel agent! I'm sorry but you have a lot on your mind already and making their plans is just too much!

Thanks! I really feel so overwhelemed right now, and part of me does feel responsible for the people who are coming over here for the wedding, but only to a certain extent. Like I said I don't mind giving them suggestions and what not, but I don't see why they are incapable of doing their own research? I just think its so rude to expect me to plan out their entire itinerary without them even trying to come up with their own ideas. I'm just afraid that they will complain the whole time they are here, and expect me and my immediate family to do what they want.
what did I get myself into?!

This sounds like an AWESOME solution to your problem! Don't stress it honey. If people want to come, they will come. NO ONE will complain to you and if they do you should just ignore it. IT IS NOT your responsibility to hold their hand in this new country. They are adults with the ability to inform themselves of the area. Giving them a starting point, such as a website with links and ideas would be helpful and I love the idea of having a place to post questions. Takes the pressure off all parties involved.

Good Luck!
