So FH's best friend got engaged 2 weeks before we did. They have been saying for a while they wanted to have a winter/fall wedding. Me and FH have said for like 6 months now that we are looking at april/may. We had picked 5/9 but I think I wanna go with a sunday maybe 5/3. Well I find out today that FH's best friend has decided that they want to do that last weekend in april. We are inviting some of the same people and I think it's crazy to invite people to 2 weddings 2 weeks in a row. I have a feeling they have picked that week to be spiteful since the other girl hates me but I'm so annoyed.

i'm sorry to hear that! my desire to see the good in people hopes that they didn't do that to spite you! but i do agree that if you're both close to a lot of the people who will be going to the two weddings, it's too close together. have you guys talked to them about it to see what they say?

That is a tough one. I can say that I completely understand the whole thing! Trust me I understand what you are going through. Don't stress it. It is what it is. And that is your DAY.

Do they realize that they won't be able to attend your wedding if they leave for their honeymoon right away? I would think your FH's best friend would want to be at your wedding.

I was thinking the same thing!
If you both tell the group of friends your dates now, it might be ok..because they can save for over a year and half..

Oh GOD. That is so ridiculous. They aren't even considering their friends that have to shell out money for gifts. FH has friends too that got engaged just because we did. The same competition is going on with us. It's so retarded. He doesn't tell them ANYTHING about our plans. I told him not to because they would just try and beat us. So, I would just have the wedding months earlier and say F them.

FH has said that his friend has always been 3 months behind him. They started dating 3 months after us and his friend has always tried to compete. His friend hasn't told him they want to do an april wedding the girl told her best friend who is one of my friends. They have known for over 5 months that we have our heart set on late april/early may. I definately think they feel they are competing to be the first but its not suppossed to be a competition. I'm gonna book whatever works for me and F them.

Re: Need to vent
We have been dating 5.5 years (since freshman year of college). FH's college roomie started dating his now-fiance a few months after us. The 4 of us are like family, although we live in different states now
We got engaged in May, they got engaged in June.
We are getting married 8/17 and set the date immediately, they are getting married 8/2 and set the date 1-2 months after us.
At first i was a little disappointed because we were dating first, engaged first, and i thought we'd be married first but that passed quickly. roomie's fiance is a teacher and they wanted a summer wedding because she's off. they wanted may/june wedding but their church was booked every sat until Aug 2! they will be back from their honeymoon in time to come to our wedding, and they already booked their hotel in NY for 2 nights. He's a groomsman.
Edit: dont go nuts if they also have a spring wedding. its fun to have a friend on the same timeline as us, and it will be nice to go to a wedding right before ours (we've never been to a friends wedding) -- plus, their wedding is out here (where we live now while i'm in law school, so we wont need to travel) and we dont have huge guest list overlap.
A big factor is that they werent doing it for spite and we both had time constraints w/ jobs and such. if they got married and set their date first we would have wanted to go with our date, or maybe may if we had to. i wouldnt expect them to wait another year and i would be upset if they wanted to (especially since 09 is bad for us because i take the bar exam)
i know my reply is long, but if they are doing it for spite (which it seems they are) you should talk to them about it. if that date was their 5 year anniv and you set your date first, i could see why they wouldnt want to change it.

Re: Need to vent
Not to take away anything, but people are entitled to do what they want...it stinks if they do it, but there's nothing you can do about it so why waste the energy being upset? If they do pick a date close to yours, make sure your wedding is waaaay more awesome than theirs!!!

I really know how you feel. In my situation- FH says that my enemy is lurking. No wonder my post views are high whenever I start a thread! *Waves*
LOL. Seriously though. Anyone who tries to compete and race to the alter- F them. They are threatened. They are just plain worried that someone is going to have a better wedding and that is just plain childish.

Re: Need to vent
That really stinks. But if there is one thing i learned about booking a date, it will always interfere with something.
First I was September and FMIL said so and so was getting married on the date. So and so was someone I never heard of (we dated 6 years).
Then I booked something in May '09 and low and behold so and so (yes the same one) was graduating from law school that weekend.
Well, maybe so and so was meant to not be there!
Just do what is best for you. It will be great to get your friends together back to back!

ugh!! what a pain in the butt!! that really does stink, but i'm sure that your friends will come to both, and on your day, you'll forget about all of the drama and just enjoy it!

Re: Need to vent
If they are doing it out of spite, that is just petty and stupid. Don't let it ruin YOUR day!! Maybe you can send out your STD's way before they send theirs? And maybe if you can find out when they are sending their invites, you can send yours a week or 2 earlier so mutual friends get yours first?

Re: Need to vent
since neither of you booked yet you should talk it out with eachother -- worst case, maybe you can move your date back a week and they can move theirs up a week?

Re: Need to vent
that is frustrating i would play things by ear. maybe they'll book their date before you, and you guys can sort of go from there depending on what they choose (if you're really worried about it being close together). has FH talked to his friend yet? since you're not close with the girl, that's probably the only point of negotiation.
