we have the same issue. One of FH's groomsman had to step down because he decided to propose to his GF this month and is planning to have their wedding at the same place as us two weeks after ours. We are going to be on our honeymoon for a min of two weeks so chances are we will not make it to theirs but oh well thats what they chose to do. Good thing is we only have a handful of mutual friends, but I was still annoyed they want to have it at the same place too. As if the date wasn't bad enough LOL

Ooh I would be sooo mad! To have a close friend pick a date that would require them to step down as a groomsman, and to pick a date 2 weeks after yours at the same place? At least it wasn't 2 weeks before!!
Was that date special to them for some reason like an anniversary?

Re: Need to vent
If they did do it out of spite then that is really sad and I wouldn't want to go to there wedding anyway but, if it wasn't done out of spite then I would say maybe since you didn't book anything they felt it was okay for them to book because they might have had that date in mind also. Maybe the hall only had that date available, or maybe it works for there work schedule, who knows what the reason is but, I wouldn't let it bother me. Enjoy planning your wedding because it will be special to you no matter what

Re: Need to vent
i have to say....engagement is like a bug....one person does it, they all do it! I dont think anything is wrong with that. I am soo glad we can all experience all the same things together. When i start to have kids with Fh , some of them will be pregnant, or had kids already. Are kids will be all the same age. We will do all the things that everyone goes through in life, together. So i am glad we have been engaged together, married at close times...i think it just makes us better friends
Most people want their day just as exciting as the next one...it just depends on the people you want to share it with and who wants to share it with you as well. Plan your day as if you were the only two getting married ever, and you will have a GREAT wedding!

The date had no meaning but I guess they felt strongly about the same time of the year. Whatever. I was sad at first but I got over it. At least it's not the same day

Re: Need to vent
If they thought you were going with a 5/9 date, then why would they see a problem with the last weekend of April (2 weeks before the date you were originally planning on)? It sounds to me like you're also changing your plans (albeit only by a week, but still ... )
I always find it strange that Brides think they have a monopoly on every weekend before their wedding ... why does it matter that you were engaged first?
Maybe they had a scheduling conflict and couldn't get married in the fall for some reason??
