Okay so before figuring out the wording for my invites, I spoke with my FMIL and asked her if she wanted her name on the invite. She said no because she wasn't hosting the party. I then asked her if she wanted me to write her name after my FH name saying 'son of.' She said no!! Now we got our invites in, assesmbled and showed them to her and asked why her name isn't on them. ***, we don't have it in our budget to order more and I'm pissed

I think you went above and beyond by asking her considering that you guys are paying for the wedding yourselves. Like most other people said, unless she wants to pay for new invitations, you should definitely keep the ones you have and not feel bad!!
