Need to vent! Not meant to start controversy!!

This may not be a popular subject but I HAVE TO VENT!

I just came back from the supermarket and basically had to count my money so carefully cause we are watching our budget. So I shop for sales, get no name brand items and the like and get on line with my few things.

I am behind not one but two mothers, one of which has 3 kids and the other one has 5!!!!!! And how are they paying??? Food stamps!!!!!!!!! And what are they buying??? All of the most expensive items, meats galore, not cheapy cereal but the cereal that costs like 5 dollars a box and it just annoyed me soooooo much!!!

Then to top it off they start talking to each other and saying this is the way to go and crap like that. One of them even said, I havent worked a day in my life..the more kids you got, the more they give you!

And there I am, a working woman with a working husband struggling to make ends meet while half my pay check is going to these people. I understand if you need the help, really need it, but people like this make me sick!!!!!!!!

I soooo needed to just get that out!

That would make me fume also. I am all for helping people when they are down, especially in this economy. But I don't want to be helping people who don't help themselves (well I guess these women were helping themselves - they were helping themselves to OUR money!)

I agree with you 100%.

We give $$$$ away to people in this country that do not need it but the ones that do, suffer!!

Too bad a Social Services agent didnt hear that woman say that. I bet her benefits would either be stopped or greatly decreased!!

Thank god!

I just look at my check and see all the money I am virtually missing for these people!

Plus I work in a preschool who accepts vouchers from the city so these same mothers can go to school and further themselves. So basically I work my butt off to take care of these children, so I can get paid half of what I am supposed to so I can send these mothers to school something I cant afford to finish because I am giving half my money to them!

Vicious, vicious cycle!!!!!!

Im still convinced that people need to come together and change welfare. I dont want to pay $50 a week anymore for Men who cant take care of their families. It ****es me off, they wanted to play and and now why do I have to pay?

doesnt anyone have any PRIDE in themselves these days? Waht about your self worth?? I guess its just easier to hold your hand out than to break your back at a job!!!

I don't really know too much about the welfare system...but why is that there is no time limit on it? there is on unemployment...and unemployed people actually paid into the system...

does anyone know if there is a time limit? or does having a child extend the benefit time?

I agree wacky...we can complain all we want, but until we get together...nothing will be done...

People like that make me so mad!!

I have a big mouth when it comes to stuff like cheating the system and making me pay for their laziness. I would have said something if I were there. Arghhhhh!!!

I am working three jobs, going to school full time and for what, to feed others? Our system just plain S U C K S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like this girl that I know through another friend. Shes only 21..she already has one child who she cares nothing about. If it werent for her family, he would have no guidance or caring at all.

Shes been living in a shelter for mothers for a few months and to hear her tell it..she loves it! She gets anything and everything she needs or wants. Her family has offered to watch the child while she goes to work (amazing family) She says no but she continues to go to their house and raid ther fridge and leave him their for hours while she goes and hangs out.

She has just anounced that she is yet pregnant again!!!!!!!! People just do not learn and not only do we suffer but look at those poor children.

Although in this instance, I think the family need to practice tough love for a change.

As far as I know there is no time limit. I had a friend that had 2 kids by two different fathers, and didn't want to get a job on the books until the oldest kid's father got a job, becasue the gov't takes back the cash that was given to you, and she would have had to pay the half that he was responsible for.

COULDN'T AGREE MORE! The whole welfare system needs to be completely reworked! I say, you have one child or two kids and can't support them fine, thighs happen, may be you lost you job or something, but to go on and have more kids knowing you have no means to pay for them!

It might be cruel, but I think that if a woman is on welfare and she decides to have another child, she should be taken off the Social Services payroll! That will teach them to use condoms!

We are still thinking about how we can afford one child, meanwhile someone has 5 and makes us pay for them!
Unfair and cruel!

I can totally understand your frustration with these women, however, I must add my $0.02. Yes, there are women like these who take advantage of the system. Yes, some of them abuse the system every chance they get. BUT...I really hate it when the behavior of the few gets attributed to the many. In other words, it is obvious that these women are, in one way or another, abusing the system that our tax dollars go towards, but to attribute the behavior of people like this to every welfare recipient is unfair.

It is not too easy to get Social Services these days and believe me, I've had many people walk through my door who are not eligible for unemployment insurance benefits because they were only able to work part-time or off the books, and are having extraordinary difficulties finding jobs, but are still not eligible for public assistance. I have clients who have done everything right and have too much pride to get public assistance, but have to do so for their children's sake. I have clients who quit their job at Burger King to go back to school to better their lives for their children only to be sanctioned by Social Services and had their benefits cut because they voluntarily quit their job, therefore, they are being told, stay in your dead end job or you won't get any help.

I agree that the women in the supermarket were lacking a moral compass, but please, don't assume that the majority of people on public assistance look at it the same way.

Re: Need to vent! Not meant to start controversy!!

I'm totally for welfare when it's used to help someone in a crisis or time of need. Heaven forbid we all may need it one day, so I would never judge someone for needing it.

But what gets me angry are the people who use it as a way of life. They manipulate the system, crank out kid after kid to get bigger checks, and sit home and do nothing all day while they laugh at all of us hard working people who are basically supporting their lazy a$$es. And then they have the stones to blame everyone else around them for their sad lives.

Ummm, excuse me, but last time I looked, the poor had more opportunity to go to college than the middle class!! I didn't qualify for financial aid because I made 'too much' money! Yeah, right. But the poor can go for virtually NOTHING. Do they take advantage??? Nooooooooo. It's easier to sit back and live off the state and other hardworking saps like us.

They stand in line with all the best cuts of meat, and most expensive products, pay in food stamps, and meanwhile they drive away in a nicer car than mine and are wearing more jewlery than Mr. T. It makes me CRAZY.

It goes from generation to generation, the kids see the parents doing it, and learn that it is the way to go. I agree with the other posts. Where's the self respect? Where's the sense of pride and accomplishment from supporting yourself and your family?

Another thing that gets me mad is dirty kids. OMG!! I can understand if you're poor, but you DON'T have to be dirty. I'm sure you can afford a bar of frickin' Ivory. You don't really even NEED soap. WASH YOUR KIDS AND COMB THEIR HAIR!!!

I remember when I worked lor Lilco, people would get their service turned off for non-payment, and come in with vouchers from social services (meaning they were making a payment for them), and they would drive up in Mercedes, BMW'S , etc, with so much jewelry and furs

It is very annoying
