So my best friend in the world got married this past wedding. I love her to death but unfortunately I feel like we share a brain.. I will explain..
When I first got engaged started looking at dresses fell in love with a Maggie dress call Krisha. A few days later my bf and I were talking about the dresses. She also found a Maggie dress. (Different styles though) I go back to the bridal place I was working with and I asked the sales woman to make sure that they aren't the same dress because they changed the names to codes for the store. Sure enough she pulls up the other dress (Berkeley) and they are so Freaking similar I just cried. I couldn't get the dress. Check them out you'll see how similar they really are, I'm not exaggerating!
Then FH and I fell in love with Amazed by Lone Star. We knew it was going to be our wedding soon. A few weeks ago the BF and I were talking about what she has to do with the dj and bring the list of songs and stuff. Make a long story short she and her FH were using that song as well. Neither one of us talked about using this song to each other so it makes it humorous yet upsetting at the same time. Many people say that I could still use it, its just a song but I don't want too. I want our own ya know? Or am I over reacting to this?
Lastly, at her wedding, father/ daughter dance comes. We picked the same freaking song for that too. This one was the worst of all because I love this song so much because I am super close to my dad and it was such a heart felt song. Heartland (I saw her first). I left the reception to cry. I couldn't believe everything that we both wanted to do at our own weddings.
So frustrating.... FH doesn't really understand and just apologizes which is very sweet. lol But now I gotta start all over again with finding songs... Please once again tell me its not a big deal we can use the same songs but I just don't think I can do that. Am I over reacting once again? lol
Please be honest. What would you do in my situation. Sorry its so long. Just really needed to vent!

Re: Need to Vent to Brides that will understand!
AWH! I would be pretty upset too. I know it's not like she's copying you or you're copying her, but it should be your day. Honestly, I think using the same father/daughter song is fine because so many girls use that. I think you should be 100% comfortable with your dress, so if you feel like it's too similar, don't get it. Lastly, could you do something to your wedding song to make it stand out? Can you sing? Maybe you can re-record it with you singing or FH singing...my sister did this with her song and it came out really well and it made her song stand out.
I know it can be frustrating... GL, HTH

No you're not overreacting at all!!! We all want our wedding to be personalized and special for us so seeing that she has alot of the same things I would be upset too...But I think you should still go ahead and get the dress you picked and use the songs you originally chose...The songs are very special for you and by the time your wedding comes around you won't be thinking about hers HTH

Are you inviting alot of the same guests that she had? If not, your guests aren't going to know which songs were played at her wedding or what dress she was wearing.
Trust me, people's memories are short. They will not remember anything a year from now.

That really stinks. I understand where you're coming from though. I'd be bothered too, but at the same time, I think you should use the songs you want to use. You shouldn't have to change your songs just because she used them. If those 2 songs are really that close to your heart, I think you should definitely use them. I couldn't imagine giving up my wedding song because it means a lot to me. I don't think you're overreacting at all about it because like I said, I'd be really bothered too, but I also think you should go with what you feel is right. If changing the song will make you happy, go for it, but just try to remember that the song you pick should be close to your heart.

I'm sorry
I don't think any of it was done intentionally though....its just sukks that you are so similar. However, now you have the chance to pick other things that maybe more you than you realize, everything happens for a reason
Sorry to hear that. If you don't find anything else you like as much I would still use those if the soungs means that much to you...

Aww I totally understand. The other thing I could say is that they are so far apart most people won't notice some of that stuff. I just found out my twin sister is getting engaged and I am soo worried about this!

i'm sorry, i would be upset too. I know YOU will know, but honestly over a year later, nobody is going to even remember these things. Just make sure your friend knows you arn't intentionally copying her!

nope i would feel the same way!! that really stinks..
on the plus side you have plenty of time to find new songs..
what i am doing for my father/daughter dance is having my dad choose the song, maybe you can do that too.. so it will be a surprise for you! and if he does choose that heartland song (which makes me cry EVERYTIME btw!) it will be because he chose it, so you won't feel like you're copying your best friend..
things will come together!

Honestly, I totally get how you are feeling but with over a year between your weddings, I really don't think guests are going to remember her dress that well and even if they do remember the dress or the songs, it won't be as fresh in their minds. I think you should think about it for a while because six months or a year from now, you might feel differently and you might be okay with it.

Everyone uses that Heartland song now.... that can't really be helped!!! I've heard it at at least 3 weddings in the past yr.
Something similar happened with me my very good friend used the wedding song I always wanted.. but I found another song that I like just as much!
Don't let it ruin your own wedding experience!!!

I think you should just use the songs if they mean so much to you!

I reallly agree here. If she's your BF, I'm sure you will have some of the same people... just weigh it out. I think you can definitely use the same Father/Daughter dance song. I don' tknow if I would use Amazed...just me. But I would want to personalize it from her. Your dress, although similar, is different and unless you physically look very similar, your dress will look very different on you both. I do admit...its kinda scary and cool that you have the same mindset.

I say keep the songs. Tell your friend how you feel about them and I am sure she won't think you 'stole' them or were trying to copy her.
If they mean something to you, you should be able to use them.

You're not overreacting. I wish you wrote this in sooner because I would have told you to have a talk with your friend that maybe she would have ceded something (like the father-daughter song) to you; if it meant that much to you, I'm sure she would have understood and done so readily. I think that you should still do what you want to do as long as you think that when the moment comes of your wedding, you will be IN the moment, and not thinking about your friend's. Can you accessorize your dress and do very different bm dress colors that the overall look will be totally different from your friend's?
