I am soo sry if this bums ne one out, but I need to vent the frustrations!!!!
I feel like this is never going to happen. I am so sick of looking at halls and trying to haggle with them. The money just really isn't there b/c there are tooooooooooo many other things that have to be taken care of! I don't even know why I bother looking at places any more! The prices are ridculously high and it just seems impossible!!!
The place where I got my dress lied to me on numerous occasions! I have had sooo many fights with them! Paradise Bridals in Patchogue. They are only nice to u when u r looking. They had me order my dress early by telling me it was going to be discontinued and it wasn't (icalled the manufacturer after the fact) and I dont even want to go there to pick it up.
I was going to say screw everything and have a destination wedding...but again more problems! His parents refuse to get their passports and have excuses for everything! My parents are being too pushy about it and demand we have it where they vacation all the time! So i decided against that!
And we had to change the date 2x already
Am I the only one with these probs? I am sooo sry to bum anyone out, but I really really just have to let it all out!

how about a destination wedding inside the country so they dont need passports? my friend got married in vegas and it was perfect for her ... antoer friend got married in FL and loved it.
You could also go on a cruise and get married there (like an overnight cruise to nowhere)
or if you want to be more traditional, you could always have a small wedding without the actual reception (just have the ceremony + cocktail hour)

Ugh, so sorry you're feeling this way. I feel like with Paradise Bridal you really have to be on top of them. It's very frustrating. They've always been nice to me, but there have been occasions where some of the sales people have been a little snippy!! I'd say it's better to have your dress early though than worrying about it not coming in on time. As far as the halls, there are affordable ones out there. From what I've heard the Meadow Club (having a showcase tonight), Watermill, and Majestic Gardens are fairly reasonable. What day of the week are you looking for? Obviously a Sunday afternoon will be cheaper. I would suggest that to you. Don't worry, it'll happen. Somehow it all works out in the end.

Tell them if they want to see their daughter get married, they will get themselves together and get to the place that you choose.
Same for you FIL's. They can't dictate how you're going to live your life, you and FH have to decide what is best for YOU.

i already told them is they dont like it dont come. Just caused a big war. I told FH that we should 4get everything, go to the Justice of Peace and I will cook him dinner and that is that. No reception, no ceremony, no hearing other peoples crap.

One of my coworkers is having a destination wedding for just her and FH, but before they leave they're having a 'party' and kinda of a mock ceremony (nothing official) for their guests. It's less expensive that way because it's not a 'wedding' but all their friends and family can be there.

are your parents paying for the wedding? either way, you and FH should make the decisions. u might need to sit ur parents down and tell them that you are going to make the decisions because its YOUR wedding! i had to do that. and they shut up. even though i know they disagree with some of my decisions, they dont say anything.

I understand!! It's crazy how much things costs!! Just didn't know how we were gonna come up with the $$. But just take your time and plan slowly. I've got 22 months to plan the wedding of my dreams that is still within my budget. I have lot DIY projects mentally planned and i've already established a realistic savings plan.
I'm really sorry that you don't have the support of those closest to you!

So sorry you are going through this unnecessary frustration. I would concentrate on the both of you and nothing else. You can drive to PA, CT or MA and have a nice ceremony in the park or something really pretty and go to a restaurant with those you want there with you. I don't think it has to be elaborate.... just want you want.
If you are into destination weddings (which I LOVE), there are so many great places here in the US. Close to home... many places in New England all within driving distance. Niagara Falls, South Lake Tahoe (Nevada side) with tons to do. they also have day trips / tours to San Fran, Yosemite, CA vineyards, etc. Its gorgeous and Lake Tahoe is beautiful... blue like the caribbean with so many lakeside activities.
I bet you'll save a ton of money doing this. HTH

We even make it a point NOT to fight about money, especially since we own our home, but when it comes to the crazy prices of these halls its war! lol. b/c we can't get what we want b/c it is too much! don't u girls feel the same way? like seriously, try waiting a couple more yrs and see where the prices r going to b.

Yes, we own our home too and trying to keep up with the mortgage and save for this ridiculously expensive wedding at the same time is proving to be really tough.... I feel ya!

Your wedding is about you & your FH. If you are stressed out now & you are just getting started...........by time you really get into the planning you'll probably want to throw yourself in front of a speeding train! Do youself a favor...........don't say a word to anyone, get on a plane, go to vegas, get married, party your scruples away, than come back to NY & think about having a party with your new husband,friends & family. DO WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU & YOUR FH! Especially if the money is not there. You do not want to start your new life with your new husband PENNYLESS!

Have you tried rh's during the winter when the rates are cheaper? Could you have a smaller wedding? What about a tented wedding?
