Need to Vent...Anyone else feel hopeless?

Original post by rockysmom23

I am soo sry if this bums ne one out, but I need to vent the frustrations!!!!

I feel like this is never going to happen.
I am so sick of looking at halls and trying to haggle with them.
The money just really isn't there b/c there are tooooooooooo many other things that have to be taken care of!
I don't even know why I bother looking at places any more! The prices are ridculously high and it just seems impossible!!!

The place where I got my dress lied to me on numerous occasions! I have had sooo many fights with them! Paradise Bridals in Patchogue. They are only nice to u when u r looking. They had me order my dress early by telling me it was going to be discontinued and it wasn't (icalled the manufacturer after the fact) and I dont even want to go there to pick it up.

I was going to say screw everything and have a destination wedding...but again more problems! His parents refuse to get their passports and have excuses for everything! My parents are being too pushy about it and demand we have it where they vacation all the time! So i decided against that!

And we had to change the date 2x already

Am I the only one with these probs? I am sooo sry to bum anyone out, but I really really just have to let it all out!

Screw it! Go to City Hall, have a big party later on in the year when you feel like and buy a fabulous dress!! I would def do that if my future mother in law wasn't literally only hanging onto life to see me and my fiance get married. You have to be happy!

are you set on a time of year? FH and i wanted a spring/summer wedding originally, but once i found a hall we loved, we went into March, most ppl wont get married in march, but price wise, it was an astronomical differnence, and we got to have our saturday night wedding at the hall we wanted, with a price we could afford

good luck! let us know how it goes!

from this site, you can learn a lot about different options for stay withing your budget but still have an amazing wedding.

first, thursdays are cheaper than any of the other weekend days (including friday) and also afternoons

but if you're looking to save even more, i would think about having a nice coctail party. still could be 4 hours if you wanted, have a dj and mc (there are inexpensive options out there). you could have passed hourderves, some chafind dishes and an open bar or maybe you could save by having an open bar but wine, beer, soda. theres also the option of a buffet which could save money and still be very nice (ive heard though lately that it doesnt save as much as one might think)

have you also considered a nice restaurant, renting out a room or a second floor? this could save a lot of money because they arent necessarily in the 'catering' business but have great food still!

or you could the ceremony here and your parents attend and then have a destination reception only, if the parents dont want to attend, that is their choice but they got to see you get married. i dont know if that would work but in the end youd be trying to compromise and do right by them but also do something that you want.

can i ask what rhs youve looked at? maybe i could give you a few more recs that are inexpensive??

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Yes, we all hit some bumps here and there. I agree with Awaiting August how about an in country destination wedding? Good Luck.

Also, even if you put it off like you thought, the prices are only going to go up. You might want to do a lot of DIY. Do you have friends that could probably DJ?

I couldn't handle the all-business/salesman approach to the wedding process! It was a very sad reality to deal with. And I wasn't very willing to change my vision for my wedding day to conform to the industry and how much money they expect to bring in on X date.

In the end, I found some amazing locations within 2 hours of Long Island. Ultimately, I settled on a beautiful B&B in the Hudson Valley that was more than willing to accomodate my small wedding on a Saturday evening in the summer! All my vendors are local small business owners and couples and I am more than happy with my decision. Like you, I had also considered eloping.

Don't let your family dictate where you can and can't get married ('We'll only go to Cancun' is downright ridicules and manipulative!') YOU decide where you want to marry and how much you plan to spend and if they want to come or not is up to them. And I do suggest looking outside of LI. LI and NYC is not very budget wedding friendly and there are MANY great small wedding packages to be had nearby. They can even drive home after the wedding if they want! And no passport necessary ;)

Don't get frustrated I went to over 10 halls and had a really tough time as well with my budget. I didn't find a place I loved until I went to Villa Lombardis. We looked at Lombardis on the Sound and then decided to go over to Lombardis. The only advice I can give is have your wedding on an off month. My wedding is 11/11/11. I had a whole other idea planned out in my head bc I wanted a summer wedding either by the water or outside by a garden but every place i fell in love with was too expensive. Lombardis is great bc the food is amazing and the price was right and the place is gorgeous. Did you check out the Riviera in Massapequa- I heard it is gorgeous and inexpensive. What type of venue are you looking for. You can FM me and I will give you more details of all the halls I looked at!! Hope this helps!!

Tried that...my parent refuse to go anywhere except cancun...can u beleive it?

Tell them if they want to see their daughter get married, they will get themselves together and get to the place that you choose.

Same for you FIL's. They can't dictate how you're going to live your life, you and FH have to decide what is best for YOU.
