Need your honest opinion

We want a Winter 2012 wedding and the only December dates our venue has available are 12/21/12 and 12/28/12. We didn't want to go with the 28th just because it's right between Christmas and New Year's so we were booking the 21st but for the longest time have been hearing 'omg the world is supposed to end that day' so we're afraid that people won't even show up because of that. I LOVE the date, it sounds so pretty! But I don't know What do you guys think?

Ps: I've been on this site for the longest time and now since it's a year away and we have been venue shopping this is all starting to feel real! I'm so excited! I also made an appointment at Kleinfeld for January! I can't stop smilng :)

I'm not bothered by it, I truly don't think anything will happen but I'm afraid other people will :/
Thank you for your honest reply Sweetpea! I still have find out if there are any dates left in November, the only reason I didn't look into January yet it's because we really want to get married in 2012.

Im sure there will be some people weird about it, but the people who matter will make it no matter what. I know my grandmother is like that(times a million) and she is going to my cousins wedding that day! Do what makes you happy!

I say if you like the date go for it! I think that most people will make it no matter what if they want to. You may have a few that can't make it because of the date but that is their loss. I know that most people in my family would love it and would make comments like 'if the world's going to end anyway, might as well go out partying/in style.'

Do whatever you think is best for you and FH!

I love the idea of having that date for a wedding! I actually wanted that date initially, but FH said I'd be too cold and miserable (I'm cold in 60 degree weather).

It'd be awesome to party the day away on the supposed end of the world--and what better way to spend the day than with all the people you love?

I agree with the other brides...its your day and you should pick the date you love...there's going to be people that can't come to the wedding based on the date anyway..as much as your trying to prevent people from not coming you can't control it..throughout this process I had a lot of disappointment with the people who didn't come to my engagement party or is planning on not coming to my shower and I was surprised who RSVP no ...all I wanna say is that the people that matter will bend over backwards to be there and the others will always have an excuse ..I hope this came out right...

People will be there if they want to be there and some will make up an excuse to not show up...true colors really come out in wedding planning.

12-21-12 is a Mayan doomsday prophecy, it is purely based on a Mayan calendar which was not designed to calculate a date beyond December 2012. I find it hard to believe that people of faith in God would take this prophecy seriously. Biblical prophecies about the end of the world do not give a 2012 end of the world date. The bible has no expiration date for earth.
Go with your gut and book the date that is best for you and FH

It's not a doomsday prophecy. It's just the end of their calendar and most Mayan's see it as a new chapter/beginning.

Everyone's freaking out over this Mayan 'Doomsday' prophecy when the Mayans themselves don't see it that way. Strange don't you think?

If you and your FH are happy with your date, stick with it. Some people will always have something to say, I am guessing these commentors who are so concerned with the possibility of armageddon they will be hidden within their bunkers.. If the mass majority of people truly believed that the world will cease to exist on that day that means no one would be planning weddings for after 12/21, getting pregnant, buying a homes, etc..
Heck, if the world really does come to an end, what better place to be than a celebration!

Seriously, if it works for you, it's not like you're asking people to come out on a major holiday or something. go for it, and I would even make a joke or two within the details... tee shirts with '12-21-12 the end.' save the dates with 'we're going to party like there's no tomorrow'

I love the idea of having it on 12/21/12. I myself will be throwing a party that day (not that i believe it... but just in case...) It's a great theme!

The world could end any day. And of all the worries to have on your wedding day, THIS is the least likely of them to actually happen!
