We want a Winter 2012 wedding and the only December dates our venue has available are 12/21/12 and 12/28/12. We didn't want to go with the 28th just because it's right between Christmas and New Year's so we were booking the 21st but for the longest time have been hearing 'omg the world is supposed to end that day' so we're afraid that people won't even show up because of that. I LOVE the date, it sounds so pretty! But I don't know What do you guys think?
Ps: I've been on this site for the longest time and now since it's a year away and we have been venue shopping this is all starting to feel real! I'm so excited! I also made an appointment at Kleinfeld for January! I can't stop smilng :)

12-21-12 is a Mayan doomsday prophecy, it is purely based on a Mayan calendar which was not designed to calculate a date beyond December 2012. I find it hard to believe that people of faith in God would take this prophecy seriously. Biblical prophecies about the end of the world do not give a 2012 end of the world date. It's not a doomsday prophecy. It's just the end of their calendar and most Mayan's see it as a new chapter/beginning.
Everyone's freaking out over this Mayan 'Doomsday' prophecy when the Mayans themselves don't see it that way. Strange don't you think?
I agree, my post states the fact that the Mayan calendar did not calculate beyond Dec 2012. No way was that intended to be a doomsday prophecy, the doomsday prophecy is a Western myth based on the Mayan calendar.

I agree with all the ladies that said, if people are worried, why would they not want to spend the day with the people they love? I also agree with that there are so many jokes and puns you can work with here...like if you decide to have a day after breakfast...you can order shirts that say something like 'I survived the end of the world at _____ and ______'s wedding'...have fun with it!

DH and I always wanted that date, but we couldn't wait any onger to start our lives together! Go with the date, it's just legend anyhow, remember Y2K?? People freaked out over nothing! I'm sure most people will come and those who don't need a life!

If you and your FH are happy with your date, stick with it. Some people will always have something to say, I am guessing these commentors who are so concerned with the possibility of armageddon they will be hidden within their bunkers.. If the mass majority of people truly believed that the world will cease to exist on that day that means no one would be planning weddings for after 12/21, getting pregnant, buying a homes, etc.. Heck, if the world really does come to an end, what better place to be than a celebration!
THIS, might as well be with people you love! Seriously, if it works for you, it's not like you're asking people to come out on a major holiday or something. go for it, and I would even make a joke or two within the details... tee shirts with '12-21-12 the end.' save the dates with 'we're going to party like there's no tomorrow'

I would do it! Everyone keeps telling me the world going to end before I get married. People will say something regardless. If you love the date then do it.

This day is about you and FH! You'll never please everyone....and if it wasn't this, it'd be something else....you have to put your own 'wants' first on this one. I was at a beautiful winter wedding on December 20th one year---it was spectacular!

Partying on the last day of the world to me sounds pretty good. At least you'll be married before the world ends!
haha 12-21-12 sounds cool to me. I don't believe in any of that stuff and I'm hoping most people don't either.
I personally dont think most people will believe in that, its just a topic of conversation maybe....
Your wedding/anniversary date will never be forgotten either which is pretty cool!!!

I like the 12/21/12 date.... looks good and honestly, I was just saying to my fiance' that I wish we picked December for our wedding. All the pretty Christmas decorations up and the lights! I say go for it!!!

I say if you like the date go for it! I think that most people will make it no matter what if they want to. You may have a few that can't make it because of the date but that is their loss. I know that most people in my family would love it and would make comments like 'if the world's going to end anyway, might as well go out partying/in style.'
Do whatever you think is best for you and FH!

Well, I definitely say go with it since I am a 12/21/12 bride myself!!! I heard all that Mayan mumbo jumbo after I booked my date, but that didn't change my mind one bit. I figured that people are going to have issues with the date no matter what...it's too close to Christmas, it's on a Friday, it's in the winter, it's the end of the world...all sorts of issues! If you love the date, and you love your hall, just go with it! And then we'll be date twins!

Thank you for your honest opinions I really appreciate it :) Today I worked on a DIY project so I can give to my bridal party when I ask them, and hopefully VERY soon we will be booking our venue (we are 90% sure of the venue) Thanks again
