Need your ideas ... please!

Ok, we agreed to have a BBQ at FPIL's house for our RD. Think it's a good idea so people can meet and the kids can play. Didn't want a restaurant. Plus, they already are paying for part of our wedding so we didn't want to ask for more.

Now, I did the count and it's over 30 people! Their house isn't big enough to seat people comfortably and I'm worried that if the weather is bad and we're all stuck in the house it will be awful....

Also, my mom is saying if it's not air conditioned (it's not) and it's hot, my grandma may not be able to come. Not to mention, it's exit 68 of LIE, and the hotel where everyone is staying is exit 39. Friday traffic may be miserable...

what should I do?

I could never ask them to spend several thousand dollars to rent a tent, that would defeat the purpose of not asking them to have it in a restaurant

You don't even need a formal tent, you could use a tarp-tent (camping stores!!!) not too expensive.

I wouldn't worry too much anyway - I had a 50 person BBQ rained out at my old house once, and it was a really small house, and with everyone mingling and changing rooms and such it really wasn't as crowded as you may expect. Don't worry it will be ok!!

Any space concerns you have you should discuss directly with them, they'll know if there house will hold everyone. Also, try to think postive(no rain ) & remember you can't control everything!
