Personally, I'd still give whatever I was originally planning to. But that's just me. If you start to get into that tit-for-tat stuff with people, it just always ends up in disaster.

i prob would just give them whatever you were planning on, make them feel dumb lol no but seriously it can get so confusing when you start trying to match people's gifts and whatever so i would just give what YOU think is right

I agree with Joanna, just give them what you were planning and they'll probably feel bad for not giving you enough for your eparty. You need to have the upper hand and be the better people. You'll get more satisfaction out of doing that rather than returning a few things and trying to match their gift to you.

when u guys have kids... and you have bday parties for them..and these ppl will be giving gianni jr. 20$ gifts..and ur turning around spending 100+ on their kid.. is that fair? NO
return their stuff. give them a smaller gift.

No, I would still give what I had bought for them. I wouldn't go tit for tat with them bc of how much something costs..

I would return the stuff and give approx what they had given you.
Maybe they don't have a lot of $$ (or you don't realize that they don't have a lot of $$) and can't match your generosity.
This obviously bothers you, so from here on out I would give what they gave you so you don't feel slighted.
PS - you are BEYOND generous - no one I know gives that much $$ for engagement/weddings/baby showers!![]()

OMG - well, if they are going around saying that (which is SO OBNOXIOUS!) then I would def give the car seat (which is an AMAZING present) and in the future keep your gifts down to around what they gave you.
You are SO generous, you def do not deserve to spend your hard-earned money on a couple who doesn't reciprocate.

ITA w/Barb...I am the same way, where I went above and beyond for people and they weren't doing the same...(My birthday is 5 days after Christmas, and I always get double gifted).
I stopped buying people Christmas presents and only bought them birthday presents...I wasn't going to be putting the effort/time/stress into finding gifts if it wasn't coming back.
I don't think its a selfish thing, I think its a self preservation thing. I would just give the car seat and return the rest.
